Well for me, I had hoped it worked out at USX but, it didnt. Here is a rather long post regarding my 2 week venture with them.

Really,.... how can anyone make any money with USX? The load planners dont seem to have a clue, the mechanics cant seem to fix the trucks and when the trucks are running the miles are just not there. At first I thought this was an isolated issue until I spoke with and heard numerous drivers saying the same things.

One of my students just quit them actually. He had gotten 347 miles for one week, and 892 miles for the week prior. After 3 years with USX, he went to a terminal, asked for a leave of absense (this way they dont take anything out of his paychecks for truck clean up), and rented a car, never to return. Not sure what is going on with USX, other than ALOT of big companys wont deal with USX Inc anymore (like the big company I am now working for).

As for the truck getting repaired, never, and I mean NEVER, let the terminal mechanics work on your truck with this company. Get 300 miles away from a terminal, and then call break down. I have had my truck worked on at the terminal, only for it to come out of the shop worse then it went in.

Their Volvos are pretty nice, but they seem to develop air leaks alot.

As a full grown American adult, he was following the rules and taking it outside. He nor I need your permission. 30% of Americans smoke. You'll kiss the ### of the 14% minority everyday. But someone who falls into the 30%, get hauled to jail.

THIS customer is FORCED to wait, therefore needs access to their truck, which will NEVER be placed on a hoist. Nor will it in all likelyhood ever see a 2 year old and their toys.

Truck repair shops are world famous for sitting politely behind "rules & regs" that do not include a clock, nor the ability to actually inform a driver whether it will be 15 minutes, or 4 days until the repairs are completed. MANY national chain shops require a driver to be present while repairs are made.

Detaining a customer against his will, is also against FEDERAL & State law. Until that customer has commited a crime, he has done nothing wrong. The "shops" ONLY option is to call Police, or ask the customer to leave. And trying to enforce the law without a badge, is also crime unless it is done so under the guise of Citizens Arrest. Check your local laws to see if you acted accordingly.

This driver acted properly in notifying the POLICE, who from what I read set the shop straight on the LAW and how it applies to what you perceive as dangerous customers.

ok how this breaks down with ALL trucking companies..
250k plus open jobs NO shortage of applicants its like an assembly line make sure the driver is safe didn't dump a truck anywhere no drugs teach them the rules and get the driver on the road to make ME (CEO) a million..sad but true..
im NOT a CEO thank goodness I'd be too embarrassed.
THIS is what i have learned in the last ten years on the road big company follows motto of henry ford's concept of the ASSEMBLY LINE teach one guy one thing so there is no confusion or wasted time and money to hire skilled labor...
i have tried "USELESS XPRESS" MOST unpleasant bunch of employees i have ever seen or dealt with. sadly they have to tell their drivers where to fuel and which highway to take to get from A to B dont say much about the drivers either. as for the automatic tranny's great for beginners but think about it you really cant drive or manage fuel on your own and you have to depend on technology to do your job??

All I Can Say Is This Is An Extremly Horrible Commentary, On The State Of Things In The Trucking Industry. Its Really Sad That This Is What Its Come To. My Advice Is Dont Belive The Hype! It Just Seems You Are Dammed If You Do And Dammed If You Dont. You Need To Get Into The Business Somehow But At What Expense, Shure The Big Co's Will Hire You But You Are In A No Win Position, Right Or Wrong You Lose In The End, On The Other Hand Ya Could Go To Work For A Small Tkg. Co. But Here Again Be Prepaired To Always Take The Bus, "just In Case". Small Firms May Have A Faimly Atmosphere But Its Been My Previous Experience That Things Can Really "get Personal" In These Situations And Things Will Allways Get Turned Around To Make (you) The Guy/gal Doing The Work The Victim. Dont Be The Victim Protect Yourself Against Others Stupidity, As Things Can Have A Long Lasting Effect To Your Work/personal Future. I Dont Know What The Ultimate Solution For The Trucking Industry But Its Defininatly Broken And Needs Fixin!!!!

What needs to be done? Times are hard on the o/o & drivers. How can all drivers get together to get something done? Unfortunately, just complaining who is bad & isn't, accomplishes nothing, but fair warning for the poor soul that may be on the way or already one foot in the door. Yes, life goes on, whether it's bankruptcy, loss of self pride because a life's turn took you the wrong way, family loss, or 46 days on the road away from home. But just sitting by watching the road goes by in the long run accomplishes nothing, but one mile gone by. To be blunt Trucking companies are in the game for profit less paid out the more for them. One example is cheating drivers out of miles run.

How do you get together & get something done?
Yes uspress is one of those companies.

i've seen customers trip over stuff, slip in oil/grease,etc,just because they wanted see what was happening in the shop.and of course the tech gets chewed by the manager for not preventing the customer from entering shop.had i been the service manager(i 've ran several shops prior to trucking),you definitely would not have tried to move your truck, you would have been arrested for endangering shop employees.remember, you drove it to their shop,at that point you remove everything you need for the length of time it COULD take to fix

not absolutely sure but i would think it is not illegal to leave with a vehicle in a state of disrepair, no matter the condition upon arrival as long as all the work that has been performed has been paid for. thus making the shop and any involved employee liable for unlawful detention/kidnapping.

Very easy to understand. You had a physical altercation. Does not matter whose fault it was, because at USX it is always the drivers fault especially if you are at the high end of their pay-scale.

You can be lazy, you can yell at your DM, you can stay extra days at home, you can beat the hell out of a new trailer you just pu in IN. But don't ever have someone call in and complain about you. That will get you fired quickly. Your side means zippola to them.

I worked for them for 6.5 years and the security company complained about me after I had to climb a fence to wake up the security guard so I could get my Costco load delivered. I yelled at the guard for sleeping on the job and he called up his boss and made up some story that I threatened him so he was hiding in his car, not sleeping on the job.

Whose word do you think the company took, a longtime employee with no right ups verbal or written? or some guy from Somalia strait off the boat who liked to get paid for sleeping? Yep some guy 1150 miles away said your out of here without even wanting to know what happened. all they cared about was someone complained.

By the way there where 4 local drivers out of the Kent Wa yd including myself who spent a year asking for the raises we where promised after 3 months of going from OTR to local and I was the last of those driver to get fired under similar bogus circumstances. The Guy I replaced had worked for USX for 15 years 8 as a local out of the Kent yd. he got fired due to a complaint by a shipper.
