stlwaco was asking about Missouri. There, the requirement to pull in the scales is based on whether your vehicle is licensed in excess of 18,000#.
This applies to private and commercial vehicles alike, loaded and empty. It is based on license weight alone.

If you are off duty you are exempt from FMCSR but do you feel like explaining that to the bear that chases you down for not crossing the scales ?
-
I know the two times I was shut down for log violations the diesel bear said I am free to go anywhere as long as I'm bobtailing and didn't care if I went 100 miles to the house.
-
Says your from Oregon....they have a list of HOS exemptions a mile long....all for CMV over 10,000lbs. Just sayin.
-
That is scary.
The FMCSA interpretation on 395.8, question 26, which gives us the "personal conveyance" exemption also says this:
RickG Thanks this. -
Since the scales in Missouri do not have these requirements on signs, just how many "personal campers" have you chased down? -
Might be a new thing. It's been something like ten years ago since I've been shut down

same thing happened to me this past jan. i had an error in my book( dumb mistake all my fault) when i got stopped and got placed OOS. i informed the nc state trooper someone else was coming to pick up the load and he told me once some one picked up the load i could go to line 1 and use P/C to bobtail back home, which was about 140 miles. he went on to explain to me that under P/C it was no different than taking my pickup truck out for a spin.
seeing everyone seems to have a little bit different experience/opinion on who its used.....guess it really depends on the officer at the time?

So If I drive to point A and drop off my load and I am done for the day, I can bobtail home w/o going into the scale house and on my log book I do not go to ON DUTY Driving I go to OFF DUTY line 1? very confused???
also I do get paid to bobtail (shuttle pay) home -
If the scale is open.....just go through it. It says all trucks next right....not all trucks hauling trailers next right......
