    Hence the keyword: "can"

It's the same concept with spotting for a truck while it's backing up. If that truck hits something, you can be held liable.

It isn't the same concept, at all. If YOU get in a wreck because YOU didn't look in your mirrors to make sure YOU were clear, no one will be held liable except for YOU.

That's like saying if I go to Walmart, buy a gun, and kill somebody, Walmart is liable. No, they are not. They did their background checks, made sure I was of age and not a felon. I am the only one liable.

Spotting a truck while backing is a completely different concept than flicking your lights.

I would love to see you go in to a court room and say, "Well he said it was okay to get over".. lol

Just because it doesn't make any sense doesn't mean it isn't the case. No one ever said laws made sense.

I didn't say it didn't make any sense.. It makes perfect sense that someone would try to blame any one else but themselves. It also makes sense that the "Justice" system would hold any one they can get liable. But it wouldn't happen. I am not saying you are right or wrong, but in the court of law, proof is required to prove any guilty and/or liable.

What proof do you need? If the courts wanted to fine driver A for flashing over driver B which collided with driver C, driver A is going to get fined. Driver A may not have been the cause of the accident, but they contributed to it.

First of all, Driver A would never be brought in to that court room as anything other than a witness. Second, He is not going to get fined because Driver B "said" he flashed him over. Things have to be proven. A judge isn't going to believe something someone says, just because they say it.. If that were the case, all of our jails and prisons would be empty, because they are all innocent.

It's another driver saying hey, looks good from here. Of course you're going to check & verify for yourself before just blindly coming over.

We share the task of babysitting the 4 wheelers most of the time (no offense), so why let an old driver tradition become a source of emotional stress? You can't change it, so don't let it contribute to your stress level. If you want to be mad, point your anger at the 4 wheelers towing a trailer that is too heavy for the truck, blinding everyone, and charging up the solar panels on the space station simultaneously. THAT is annoying. But again- nothing you can do except either let it bother you- or not.
