I was wondering about being burned on a load that I got a signed confirmation for but it was moved by another company. The broker just said " Sorry the shipper had two brokers working on this." Anyone have any suggestions on this?

Did you show up at the shipper or was it cancelled right after you booked it. Truck ordered not used would be appropriate if you showed up at the shipper. Or were in route when it cancelled.

Yep 40 you are right, I did forget that part of it. I read deeper into the OPs post than what was there, thanks for catching it ;)

The load was booked on Thursday of last week. The load was set for pickup on Monday but the broker said it might be available for Sun pickup. I was told I would get called Sat to confirm Sun or Mon pickup. Never got a call. So I called Sun and got a call back saying the load had already been picked up. The worst part is my driver dead-headed about 100 miles for this.

With my confirmation signature, I always put $100 cancelation fee if truck not used.

I will have to start doing that Flightline. What would be the charge for "Truck ordered not used." Would that have to be agreed to before hand?

Only $100? If you deadheaded a 100 miles you're still losing money, not to mention the time you had involved. Teach brokers a lesson they will remember by charging them a significant amount for their stupidity. How about between half and a typical days revenue?

I forget what our rate for a truck not used is, I think it's between $300 and $600

I am not sure how to implement this fee. Should it be written on the confirmation or is this just an industry standard? Sorry, I have been pulled into this by a relative and have only about 2 months experience in this industry.
I have to thank all of you for the valuable information.

It should be written in the contract that the broker agrees to when you get "set up" with them. Update the contract to include a fee for a "truck ordered and not used". You will need to send out new contracts to all of your brokers with the changes.
