Don't get me wrong, I am sure there are *some* driving jobs that are hard, and at a constant. But for the most part, we got it pretty good guys and gals, let's not forget it.
Sorry if I offended anyone, I am just not a very big fan of setting on my rump all day. Im used to showing up to work, and moving all day. Finding it kind of hard to figure out how to excel at this type of "work". So far, it seems kissing ###, or knowing somebody is what it is all about.
Is it really easy?

Eh I unload my own trailors so unload 40000 pounds of groceries in boxes everyday, you'll know its work....
-
As I said, I am sure there are "some" jobs that are actually "hard work"..
-
I really don't know if being a DM is hard or not. Never plan to be one so don't matter to much to me.
I don't have one now but in the past only issue I had was when they came to the conversation PO'ed from the previous driver's BS. It's a customer service job whether they like it or not. And just like any other type of customer service job you can't be rude to one just cause another made you mad. Not the case in this industry unfortunately. -
This reminds me of that saying for teenagers.
"Attention drivers. Go out and buy your own truck now while you still know everything" -
I am not sure what that is supposed to mean, but I don't like it. Being as I am 25, know I don't know everything, but have quite a lot of wisdom when it comes to hard work, or work in general. I did a job, that 95%, if not more, of drivers, or even men/women period would NEVER do, or even attempt to do. I guess when you spend all of your career doing actual work, jobs like driving a truck seem pretty #### easy.
It has also helped with nervousness. Driving a truck, loaded with 80,000, down a steep grade is nothing compared to standing on a beam, 4" wide, 400 feet in the air.
Say what you want, but I doubt very much that there will ever be, or I will ever work a truck driving job, that compares to that, or carrying, BY HAND, a couple hundred ton of rebar, everyday for months on end. No lumpers to do it for you, or a pallet jack or dolley to make it easier. Just 100% blood, sweat, tears, muscle and might to get the job done.
What was once the 3rd most dangerous job in the world. Structural Steel work was rated as the #1 most physical job. -

Just get tired of half of these idiots whining about working so hard, when they set in that seat for 10-11 hours. It is all they ever do.
You old timers can talk all you want. You put your time in.. Although most of you are probably OTR drivers, doing nothing but setting in that seat.. watching some lumper unload your trailer. Whining about your aches and pains, when guys like my father, who have been Iron Working for 30 years, actually have aches and pains from working. So tough setting behind a wheel 10 hours a day, so tough.
Local guys, who pick up and drop off 10+ times a day, and actually unload/load their own trailers, I can understand that.. Half of you over weight drivers can hardly get yourself in and out of your truck once or twice a day, let alone 10+.
