Hey; My wife wants to go along OTR with me. She would like to hear from other wives or couples who have gone OTR together and see what it can be like. We have been traveling in our motorhome for two years and have gotten along pretty good. Would she get bored, and want to go home? Any info would be great. Thanks Cliff

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
Taking my wife along.

I've been out there with my hubby, and I LOVE it! I'm an addict when it comes to being on the road! My problem right now is that his company doesn't allow riders, and I WANNA GO!!!

Thanks for the reply Bonnie. Was there a downside from your point of view? What is it, that you liked so much about being on the road? How often did you and your husband stay in a motel? If my wife couldn't go along I think I would have to change companies.

Hotel? What hotel? We never stayed in a hotel.
THe only, and I repeat ONLY, issue I ever had was that he was in a BIG hurry to get somewhere, and wouldn't PULL OVER so I could go pee!
He pulled over real quick when I threatened to pee in his lap!
Keep some good books handy for those long stretches of boring territory.
I don't know what it is that calls me to the road, but it is screaming so loud right now that I am considering striking out on my own! Get my CDL and go myself!
(I MUST be insane!) If he doesn't change companies soon, I will!

When I was OTR my wife went with me on a pretty regular basis. She did lots of reading and craft stuff, needle point and crocheting (sp). I know what she didnt like was the odd hours we worked, running late into the night or getting up way early, but she could just hang out in bed and sleep or read. We usually got a motel about once every two weeks and we had a few that were our favorites where we made our schedule fit in with stopping at them. So it's very doable it just depends on the person/s.

My ex was on the truck with me for the better part of two years. We didn't even have a house. Everything was in storage. She said it was the most fun she ever had, even tho she didn't drive. My current girlfriend has a CDL but is waiting for a ticket to roll off her license before she goes back on the road. She can't wait either.

...I've searched this but can't find any info.
I'm committed to getting my CDL and will likely leave for a company sponsored school within the next 60 days. Anyway, my wife is very seriously considering training also. We've been together a long, long time and really don't like the idea of separating for 6 or 8 weeks.
So, do any of you know which companies, if any, train couples together for teaming?

Just chiming in...
My Gf and I have been driving together for 11 years now. Yup, I hit my head and quit my day job, but this was something that she has always wanted to do. Her "daddy' did it, heh.
So... off she went to school, I followed when she was almost done. Had to pay the bills and such, don't ya know.
It hasn't always been easy, especially at the start. Living for weeks in something the size of a "walk-in-closet" can cause a few problems. But, stick it out. You will end up staying together no matter what, or maybe deciding other choices need to be made.
We're doing fine, though we have our "spats". We know eachother much better, than we did before. Of that, I assure you!
We just wish, that the trucking industry...
valued drivers
kinda simple don't ya think... after all, we do make them their money -
Why don't you have your wife get her CDL too and team together? My husband and I are going to go to school together in a couple of years (after our youngest graduates) and team. We have backpacked and RV'ed together and being in a small space is just fine with us. We really like being together. Since you have been in your motor home together, you will be fine. A lot of companies have a six month waiting period for you to take a "rider". Good luck!
