I can relate never been big on moving around. I'm not positve but i think some of R&J's guys are Teamsters which could be a good deal. Although some outfits have sweetheart contracts which are not such a good deal for the drivers. Someplace like Kokosing would be a good deal also, tough to get on and not sure if you are in a good area for them. They are Teamsters and they pay well.

My dad worked for Kokosing, on bridge decks and what not.. He is a Union Iron Worker.. come to think of it, I may have also.. used to be one too. I knew they had a concrete division, and bridge division.. didn't know they hired truckers. I just drove past one of their yards in Cleveland the other day.. up by Acer Mittal.. not sure if there are any around here.. I think they are more in your area.
Off subject; They just had a guy get ran over on 480 last summer.. unfortunately I seen it happen. Horrible. -
My father in law used to always tell me construction is dangerous. There's Shelley Sands too. Kokosing has a website with various trade applications. Never know!

Worth a shot. I am probably going to hang out where I am at until after June 30th.. that is the last day of my paid vacation.. First paid vacation ever and I've been working "officially" since I was 15.. You work for so many different contractors in the Iron Workers, you don't get paid vacation.

We just got a pay raise the first of April,I am a road driver it is .61cpm, I think we went to around 24.30 per hour. The city is about .40 per hour more than the road I believe. If I remember right you start out at 80%of pay scale and it takes you 3 years to hit top pay.Cpaige304 Thanks this.

And if you fill out an application with ABF do not lie, and make sure you dont forget anything the will find it. by the time they check you out you could work for the CIA.
Cpaige304 Thanks this. -
I'm surprised they don't have a sub-forum here since they're a big company. Also there's no resident "ABF guy" I know of that posts regularly on the forums as some of the other LTL carriers have, so that's probably why you don't hear much about them on here. They're union at least here in Portland...same local as my company actually. Top pay I was told was I believe $24.62/hr and start new guys at either 70 or 75% of that. Great pension and benefits. One of the better paying jobs on the road no doubt. I've heard anecdotally they're not easy to get on with.

The Central States Pension Fund is expected to be insolvent in 12 - 15 years if it lasts that long . More and more employers are standing firm on dumping the pension fund on contract renewal . UPS dumped it and YRC suspended payments because of their near bankrupt status .
