Help for a newbie plz

Hey guys gotta question for everyone, this is my first time posting so go easy on me.

I am thinking about getting into OTR trucking. (No, I do not have stars in my eyes) with the way the economy is and not having anything more than dipoloma and years of working miscellaneous jobs the task of providing for my family is getting harder. I have always wanted to drive a truck like my father and grandfather did and I am seriously considering taking the next step. Signing my life away for 12-16 months to a company that offers a cdl apprenticeship.

I am 28 years old married with 2 children (4/9). I live in the Tampa area of Florida. I'm not too worried about spending alot of time away because I will probably and hopefully get a local job after the terms of the apprenticeship have been satisfied with that being said.

This is where my question comes into play.

generally speaking what does starting pay look like on average for some of these companies? I'd be happy bringing home around 450-500 to start.(after the training of course) or would that be a dream that won't manifest till after a couple months.
