A much better week, but not really. I had some airheaded planner arrange a swap on me at the last minute. A driver was going to take my load to "save it", which he wasn't going to do anyway, and it was a drop and hook, and I was going to get his leftovers, a 300 mi run that delivered the day after. Really screwed up my week.

Meh. This could've been better had I been more careful on the fuel. I also got $50 extra from that reimbursement that didn't have its associated T chek process yet.

Chump change. There is no way I'd be an "owner operator". You worked too hard for that. How many hours did you spend in your rig last week? Is that gross, before your tax liability?
-
Yup, time for the 14 day notice.

at least it's not negative......American-Trucker Thanks this. -
Sorry, I still don't see the advantage of doing a L/P deal. I've been a company driver since 1980 and after all these years I've had but 3 jobs. My American dream was to buy my home, establish my retirement fund and continue to contribute into it, put 3 kids through college, travel overseas and finally start a business 10 years ago, build it up successfully, then sell it after 7 years for a sizable profit, all while being a company driver. As I travel these highways and see where the price of fuel is going(up) and freight rates not adjusting enough to compensate for the increase, owning a truck is not my idea of the American dream.
I applaud you for doing your record keeping down to the penny, at the end of the day you still worked for .24 p/m while someone else's truck was being paid for off your back. All these outfits that advertise a L/P deal in my humble opinion are all the same, they get their truck paid for off your back and you can't even afford to live.Last edited: Apr 6, 2012
Crawl, Guitar Man, American-Trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
They were wrong. My biggest expense isn't fuel. It's my #### truck payment. I'm getting less than 70 cents per gallon, for crying out loud. When was the last time fuel was 70 cents a gallon?
C.R. England has a fuel cap of $1.25
Hirschbach advertises one of $0.99
If only it was possible to have the truck payment tied to how much money you save in fuel.
I do like this T700, though. Should I do a four year bad marriage and then own this b***h?
-
In my opinion, you should consider becoming a company driver when possible. I gross 1200/week, on average, where I work. There are good jobs available if you are selective, and have a good work/driving history. I am constantly reading about owner/operators getting the shaft by the major carriers. Time for drivers to just say no.
USA12FOX Thanks this. -
Thought the 700 was a 5 year lease plus, you still have to pay the balloon payment at the end and that will take another year or so.
-
It had fours years left. The lease completion incentive is paid based on what's on the odometer and can be used against the balloon or taken as cash if you don't want to buy the truck. The rest of the balloon can be financed if you don't have the money to cover it.

Good post, but to be honest, ALL companies are paying off their truck on the drivers back. If a carrier buys a buttload of new trucks, they gotta put them to work, even with company drivers, otherwise their investment just went into the crapper. Wheels not moving, nothing to justify their payments. So, whether you lease or not, that payment has to be made. Either by you through the carrier as a LO or by the carrier directly.
