My best advice for newbies is slow is fast. Take your time and learn and you will get more done. If you rush you make stupid mistakes that cost you time and money. If it takes you 30mins to back into a hole at the truck stop it takes 30mins. If you rush it because of other impatient drivers (who are probably newbies themselves) then you end up hitting something or someone else. Also I'm at the stage where I'm starting to feel more comfortable now and it scares me. I try to challenge myself to keep me fresh. When you get comfortable and you know it all then you make stupid mistakes. Never loose respect for the truck.

Great thread you started there Big Rigg, been able to read all pages in 2 night settings, have been curious about entering the CD scene for a while and had a lot of questions.
The fact remains that by your comments and the responses from others, many other folks have been able to peek into this world without having to go out there and either have to rely on asking questions in truck stops or relying on old tales or misinformation. This should be required reading for anybody prior to going selecting a company for training/employment purpose.
You certainly made a good case for your current company, and there is nothing wrong with that, credit due where it is due.
Glad you discussed the financials as well, it certainly is not overpaid for the effort you have to put in, and as of today I have so much more respect for truck drivers in general.
But if I do decided to enter the A license trade, I most likely will go to your company and start from Fontana,(live in Moreno Valley)anyway glad you and your fellow students out there doing okay, stay safe, and I will go out of my way to give you guys/gals more slack/courtesy on the road

Wow I found this post tonight by accident and sat here and read all 412 post, feel like I know some of you now, and really thinking I'm making the right choice going to CFS. I was basicly told the day I applied which was on a Tuesday that I could start training the next Monday, but when I was pulling out my documents it turned out my Birth Certificaye wasm't certified so now I'm just waiting on it to arrive. I have been in retail basicly all my life and now looking foward to this new chapter in my life. Hopefully I will be in Conley by the 3 week of March and getting the process started.

Just curious, can anybody chime in as to how I would be able to sleep in the sleeper cabin, I'm 6'4" is that going to be a problem??
Could I stretch my legs in there? -
Depends on the truck won't have much of a choice with your trainer but you may be able to request a truck to fit once you get on your own. No guarantee that you will get what you need but worth a shot in asking. The average sleeper berth bed will have enough room for you to stretch out but your feet will be right at the end . Where you will run into problems is with the seat and head room. Try to get a truck with a raised roof section in the cab area, vice a standard level roof. A few inches there makes a big difference. Raising the seat allows you increases in leg room, and as long as you don't tread too far into the roof space you can move up.
Ensure that the truck has a full opening behind the seat into the sleeper, so that the seat can go back the full amount without any interference with the back wall. That allows you to move the seat back as appropriate, and again, it makes a difference in the available legroom.mileagemax Thanks this. -
I'm having trouble getting ahold of my recruiter, and I have a question, so I thought I'd post it here. Does anyone know how far back central looks at tickets? I got a really bad speeding ticket 8 years ago (when i was 17 and stupid) and I want to know before I put in my notice this weekend. any help will be appreciated. (posted in central reefer TS II also)

I believe most companies go back 3-5 years. After 8 it might not even be on your DMV report. Spend $5 at the DMV and see what shows up before you list anything. Only a few states keep tickets longer than 7 yrs. Good Luck.

Im 6'2" and I had a lot of space in my Volvo, they are phasing those out this year. I am in a freightliner Cascadia now. the sleeper has plenty of space, but the bed is only 6' with 6" on each end that some people put stuff there. I do not like to, because my stuff falls in the bins when I lift the bed. I rolled up a blanket and put it on one end to fill the gap and that gives me a longer bed. Also the top bunk seems to be longer but is not as wide as the bottom. Other than that I have not been in any other trucks. I have a friend with a prostar who says it has a lot of room, but he can't streach out, but then again he is 6'6"

I think they go back 3-5 years. I would sudgest being upfront about it. They will not kick you out for something past that, but might boot you if they think you lied about it.

What part of WA is he out of? I am looking for a co-driver and live in the Yakima area. If things don't work out let me know.
