I currently work out of terminal # 230 which is Iron Mountain Mi. But I will be transferring to terminal # 309 which is Chicago, Il on April 8th. Are you guys busy out there? We have been up and down for about a month now. Looks like we are starting to pick up again. The terminal I work out of is one of the smallest in the country. We only have 3 dock doors with 3 city drivers and 2 road drivers. I'm one of the road drivers.

Wow thats really really tiny lol. Must be incredibly hard to get in there lol. We have 35 doors, and i believe 3-5 are appt trailers. You can say we are staying steady because everyone is working and I've worked everyday since started, with getting some nice overtime as well. They just got rid of the road drivers for now, but chances are they can come back. I know we ran harrisburg and cleveland. I do enjoy doing P/D though but wouldnt mind being able to switch road driver and p/d. We normally use 40' trailers, and e got about 7-8 straight trucks but Bronx and Westchester county gets tight. Im surprised we dont do upper westchester and the other terminal in the next county does it. They have quite a bit to get over.

Why have you decided to transfer? and how big is the other terminal. One of my friends who I worked with at CWF worked for roadway express for 19 years as a dock guy until his terminal was shut down and he went out and got his license. Him and I never got any work from them, he went to UPSF and I was denied due to parking tickets... He was nervous about going back to YRC due to the problems they were having but when I told him I got a job with them he told me good decision and looks like they are getting work again. HE told me UPSF gotten slow and was only getting 30-40 hours a week. He was gonna stick it out and now hes getting less and tokd me he applied to terminal 111 and hoping he can get back into YRC

I'm only moving because of the Change Of Operation as they call it. This time around they are taking all road drivers and putting us back into the big break-bulk terminals. Better control of the freight they claim. The terminal I'm transferring to 309 Chicago, il has 500-600 doors. It's the second largest terminal in the country. Tracy, Ca. is the largest I think. It kinda sucks because now I will be number 460 out of 600 road drivers and will have to run sleeper teams.

Wow thats rough. They just did the same thing at my terminal with transfering the road drivers out of the terminal and having bigger one bring our stuff in. The road drivers will have to transfer else where. Thats rough having to run a sleeper team and lose a lot of senority. Hopefully they will put you with someone you can get along with

I know this thread isnt very busy but I'm ready to give my 1st month report

I REALLY enjoy my job here at YRC. I have no complaints at all, even being the bottom guy, but I think its the fact I dont care what shift I have whether its, p/d(95% of the time) doing dock, or switching. I am making money and just happy to have a job that I enjoy. Management at my terminal is very very very cool as well, and I learnt that if you show them you want to work, make no complaints etc, they will work with you. In my area we cover they know I like certain areas so they will most likely send me there without a problem. Even if its a place I never been too I always ask whos been there, any low bridges what to expect etc. today I had a tractor thats very rough and really didnt like to have. When I came back there was a few extras and I asked if I can use a different one and they had no problem with it and said pick whichever you would like. Honestly I really dont think I could work for a different trucking company again, well a non-union one, but I dont plan on going any where else unless its a transfer in the company.

If any one new starts out new and reads this thread you picked the king of trucking companies. Just do your job right, dont complain unless something is really big or if a truck is uneasy and work with management and they will have no problem helping you in return. Whatever they want you to do just do it and realize you are the bottom guy and will have to do stuff no one else wants to do, but remember when you got the senority you wont be doing it and the bottom guy will. I know of a few stops I gave info too them as well from my last job that they didnt know about and were thankful for it.

also a special thanks to skinnytrucker for always helping me out with any questions I have... and remember we are team YRC

umm then why are you in the YRC forum lol. You ran away from "G" as well lol. Actually we do pickups there at times so Im waiting for the day I go in there and hes there. He would not transfer me anywhere I tried lol. I only go into CWF to help with apprentice stuff since I seem to be the only one who knows about it lol.

But anyways I hope everything is going good for you out west. We just got rid of the Road Drivers at my terminal, but if I do end up transfering to NC, I will take the road driver position due to I still get NY wages(from what I heard but not too sure)

I ended my last trip out of Iron Mtn, Mi this morning and will start my new bid out of Chicago Sunday at noon. Gonna run teams. Consists of going to Phoenix then back to Chicago then go to Salt Lake then back to Chicago then get the weekend off. The next week we go to Tracy, Ca and back to Chicago for the weekend. This Change we are going thru right now will bring on big differences for your terminal. Should bring more freight for your terminal ACH so I hope your ready. Glad I was able to help.

What sleepers does YRC have you run in? I will never see one (EOL) but I'm sure the break bulks is where it's at.
And do you chose your codriver?
Hope it all works out and safe travels.

thats rough man, I didnt even knew YRC had sleeper or teams until you told me. Well maybe one day you will run to 150. Thats a rough schedule not being home all week. This was our last week with our 2 road drivers now they are both gone... not sure what they will do with the tractors, hope thye keep them, but I heard we are geting some new ones. And yes I heard we will be getting busy, the shop steward came up to me and told me he guarantees me 5 full days of work(havent been sent home once yet) and he only says that if hes serious.
