I'm also willing to bet that there are still a few rural fire departments with 50 year old radio equipment using the 30MHz band.

Our county's fire control does use VHF-low but at 46 MHz with a few VHF-high frequencies (mostly for fireground use).I know most of the radios were replaced about 10 years ago.

Mind you it's VHF ....like 142meg but my FD has the classic Motrac series....

Metal case mics and speaker boxes, separate transceiver from control head and pre LED indicator function lights....all in pristine condition.

Inside the station .... the classic iron box, painted grey. 3' tall x 3' deep and weighs 200 lbs is the base. Key the mic and listen to the cha clunk of the transmitter circuit closing. Definitely mechanical.

Most of PA is still on 33 and 46 mhz bands... There are a few that jumped ship and upgraded to the Opensky network or P25 but, there are still far more still using 50 year old technology
