Ok I recently saw an ad for ABF freight hiring in my area. So I called and talked to the TM he said he wants me to work there. It would be my first job with my class A license. I was in shock to hear him say that with having no experience. My excitement was short lived when I started filling out the online app. It wants any accidents in the last ten years. Unfortunately I have 3. 1 in 2003 or 2004 a small fender bender due to icy roads no one hurt minimal damage. 2nd accident was in 2008 I work for FedEx ground driving a step van and a women ran a red light and hit me. The 3rd accident was in 2009 and again not my fault it was raining very hard and some moron kid was flying down the road and hydro-planed into me, I was also in the fedex van. Other than that my record is clean, ive heard ABF is stricked when hiring. Will this hurt my chances?

You won't know if they will hurt you until you apply. Accidents are always problematic, even if you are not at fault. You could call them and speak to a recruiter. If you have a copy of the accident reports it could help support your claim that some of those were not your fault. Most carriers only consider anything on your mvr for the last 3 years. Since they ask for the last 10 years, it may hurt you, but you need to speak with ABF directly and ask them. Every carrier establishes their own hiring policies.

    SHC and Cpaige304 Thank this.

Well the accidents are there and ABF will find them. I would try and get the Police reports to verify you were not at fault. Try contacting the TM and tell him what you are telling us. If 2 of those accidents were non chargeable i think you will be OK. Good luck!

Also not sure of the dates of the accidents I don't have a record of it and it wants the month and year. So I did some back ground check on myself online of my driving record and it came back and said no history to report. I'm not going by that so I'm going to the DMV in the morning and getting my record from them. Now I'm afraid they might not show any history as well. then I won't know what to do. Should I mention it on the app still? I wouldn't not want to say anything and it come back and haunt me later

That sounds like a good plan to me. Like i said if you can talk to the TM ask him or her how to handle it. In my opinion if it does not show up on your MVR it may be unavailable to anyone. I would say ABF is interested in major mishaps, fatalities, ect.

You don't want to lie on your application. I would also not volunteer any information that is not requested. If it were me I would ask the recruiter what he thinks you should do. Unless a former employer mentions it or it shows up on your mvr or DAC, it will probably be a non issue. Things usually don't show up on your DAC after 7 years. Most states only give a 3 year mvr. It is rare for any company to use anything on your mvr that is over 3 years old. I think that most of that has more to do with insurance than company policy. You can get a free copy of your DAC once per year.

I had a motorcycle accident that I was riding my motorbike, and some acehole forced me off the road. it was not my fault..ABF DID NOT hire me, as it does show up on the MVR.

    Good luck to you.
