Swift "Mid-term"

the scanners are not necessarily large, basically a tube with a slot in it that you pull the paper through. not saying swift is getting those but they're out there. problem I would imagine is people dropping/stepping on them.

Your dm would reply, "I will look into it.", and promptly go back to something where he/she can accomplish something and forget your request while hoping you do the same.

Here's the mileage facts, gang.
1. The mileage, dispatched, is paid based on zip code to zip code: point B to point C.
2. The qc gps (or any gps) calculates the actual mileage from within 50 meters of where it is and the street address you entered: point A to point D.
3. Due to #1 and 2 above, your driving miles will always exceed the dispatched/paid miles.
4. We all knew this when we were hired, or should have, so stop whining. Few, if any, companies pay hub miles. Those that do certainly do not have the freight Swift has so the grass may be greener but many a driver who left will eventually admit it wasn't as tasty as they thought it would be.

But, 20% is a bit excessive.
That was 170 miles.

 

I agree Moose. I think you should say something about the 170 mile difference. There are ways they can manipulate the route to make sure you get paid what you are due. I have personally seen this done when our normal routes between cities have been closed due to road construction or floods
It is (or should be) well known that the loaded/empty miles shown in our dispatch is generally 10% lower than actual mileage. I have never complained if the mileage was around 10% off, but you can be sure I would talk to my DM about a 20% difference.

 

They won't pay it if you don't ask. What's the worst they can say ... no?

 

I call bull when my DM says something to me about my out of route mileage being more than 6 or 7%. Communication is the key... But sometimes the locks get changed and you are left out to dry.

 

I did.
My DM seemed as disgusted as I felt.
I'll wait and see if the miles were adjusted when I get paid for that load.

Like others have said, I'l take 10% or so with a grain of salt and just figure that in with trip planning. But I can't adjust for 20% with every pplan or I'd never have any loads, especially with Plus-1 schedules.

Right now I seem to be stuck near Phoenix, with Walmart short-hop loads.
Seems they have a driver shortage this weekend.
I had a load that picked up this morning at 0309, completing back at the DC at 0730, a total of around 150 miles with 2 stops.
Actual miles were 185, but at least I'll get the stops paid.

I still had 6 hours left, so I waited for another load and started to cook my dinner when nothing came through. I figured, with the holiday, I wouldn't see anything until morning.
Wrong.
I get a pplan that was to pu at 2200, with 4 stops, that would be an all-nighter.
I turned it down.

I get a call from the planner there at Walmart, and I explain to her that I had yet to sleep and was cooking my dinner. That I had not slept because of the time left on my 14 and I had been waiting for a load.

Great woman, she said OK, I'll do it another way.
She also knows that I am trying to get to MN for overdue home time.

A bit later I get another pplan from her that picks up at 0400 with 2 stops, and the promise of another load heading me in the right direction for my home time.

That one I took gladly since I can plan for some real sleep, and she had sent a message asking if I could help her out on this one.


Work with me, and I wil gladly work with you. And the people in the Walmart/Swift facilities seem to be willing to work with you more than most.
They just seem more... 'human'.

 

The two hour shower and doggie breaks should be "off-duty" On duty 15min for fuel/then off duty until rolling. 15min for pre trip and every other non-driving is "off-duty"
1500/30hrs should make it if you had hours to start with.
