Monday was entertaining. We went over paperwork right away, filling out info and signing our lives away. Then in some order or other Laura came to take our payments for school and lodging and ask if we have any questions/concerns, we took the pee/hair test, took the physical portion...the hardest part for me was lifting the 40lb wire milk crate IN FRONT of my body to eye level. But we all passed.
Then back to the room for a little light reading. Started on a 500+ page manual that's to be FINISHED (including little chapter tests) in a week. DOH. I like reading, but really? FIIIIINE. Lunch break, then out to the trucks. We learned about what's under the hood and how to check it, and pretrip the truck. Then it was time to "divide and conquer". We got split into two groups. This time it turned out that half want to be skateboard haulers, and half (the 3 from this forum...coincidence? Hmm) are in it to haul van.
Brian demonstrated a left turn around the range, had each of us in the front to see what he was doing. Then it was time for us to try it. I was first. I'm used to floating gears (10+ years of that), so learning to double clutch with a slightly sore thigh muscle was interesting. And these things are WAAAYYY different to turn than dump trucks. I knew that from watching, but it's interesting to be in one to experience it. I did alright, then Mike and Chris got turns as well. They both did really well, too. I think Chris had it down the best for shifting.
Then it was time to park, post-trip, separate the tractor from the trailer and Mike bobtailed it back to park. Day over, except for the hundred plus pages of homework.

Yee-haw. By the way, the heat in my room doesn't work. DA*N!!! Hopefully it's fixed before I get back tonight. I don't want to have to move my stuff to another room.
Up early, studying and posting on here...done posting, so...SEE-YA!!!

Sounds like a good Monday! So, are your trainers Brian L and Big Joe? Everything will be coming at you fast. Just soak it in... enjoy your right turns tomorrow. :)

Wow! I can see I've chosen the right company! Maybe we could all list each other from this forum. We probably talk more than most "friends".:biggrin_2556:

I think Prime's trucks must be limited at around 54 mph. Scary slow. When I was on one of my breaks from Roehl, my truck from a small 34 truck company wasn't governed and I would go the speed limit across the flats in Nebraska and I would come up on the Prime drivers like they were standing still. Now that I'm back at Roehl, I'm happy with the 60 I get on cruise. I just wander along in the right lane and let all the other trucks worry about changing lanes and passing. Until I get to a Prime truck, then I have to actually use some driving skill and pass. :biggrin_2559:
