Obviously as many as you have winches...
I carry 18 straps (+ my short tarp strap) and 10 chains/binders. -
16 3/8 chains and snap binders 20 4" straps
-
I carry ten 4 inch straps, four 2 inch ratchet straps, ten chains. ten snap over binders, and two ratchet binders.
I want to put two more winches on my trailer so I could have a total of twelve 4 inch straps. -
Well it depends on what you are hauling on your trailer. I use to have 2 30' & 18 20' 3/8 chains, and a pile of short chains, I had 1 binder per chain plus 5 ratchet binders. 30 2" ratchet straps, 6 3" ratchet straps and 12 4" straps mounted on the trailer. and I would have try and find a couple more straps or chains to make it home. But the whole thing I worked for a construction company and loaded in layers. I tied down each layer before I built the next layer. it was always nice to have a few extras (chains or straps) just because you never knew what they would add on the way home. in normal running you will need a lot less unless you are hauling just about anything that comes along. Then you will need larger chains. I had a couple 20' 1/2" chains to boot. I pulled a stepdeck and hauled a little of everything. from normal sized to oversized.
Rollr4872 Thanks this. -
12 chains/binders and 16-18 4" straps.

12 4 inch straps, 10 chains/ binders, 2 lumber tarps, 2 4 foot drops, 2 smoke tarps and a whole crap load of tarp straps/ bungies.
That's what seems to come on most of our trailers (we swap trailers).
I carry in my truck, four 2 inch hand straps, a bunch of felt edge protection/ plastic corners a bunch of assorted lengths of bungies and lots of tools.
We have all Manac and Reitenour 48/53 x 102 aluminum's.
freight vary's but seems to be mostly lumber/super sacks from what I've seen so far. -
For what trailer?
What kind of freight?
My 4" straps collect more mildew than use, along with the portable winches.
2" straps are used very occasionally for blocking etc.
7400lb rated chains and binders get used daily though.
Forgot how many straps etc, but I have 14 chains/ratchet binders, along with 8 shorty chains. For pretty much everything I haul, I have 5 full length chains, 12 binders, and my shorty's stored in my trailer box. Rarely I have to grab another length of chain as I can normally get 2 binders on 1 length of chain.
I haul machinery 99% of the time on an RGN though. If you pull a flat hauling lumber, it will obviously be a lot different.
Too vague a question IMHO.

So far it's been great, I'm sure I wont make the same kind of money I would if I were willing to stay out more (I told them I wanted mostly local work) but they do tarp almost every load and it's alot of work, I could see why some of the older guys don't like to do the flatbed here.
Their customer work seems to be mostly Trim board and super sacks and the trim board usually just needs a smoke tarp unless it's going somewhere that requests a full tarp, and the sacks get fully tarped.
