My automatic made it down the Chattanowhere mountain grade

    Everybody's probably familiar with that grade just west of Chattanooga heading towards Wildwood. I wasn't sure if my autoshift would handle the grade properly, but it made it just fine. I stuck it into manual, because it tends to over-rev when upshifting while picking up speed going down hill. Once I hit the recommended speed of 25 mph(6th gear for me), I kept it there and kept flipping the jake brake switch between 6 and 4. Everybody passed me while I kept my brakes perfectly cool for the duration of the descent.:biggrin_25522:

    Sue me if I don't know the name of this place. Monteagle, is it?

    is it the paddle shift? my co. has two of those trucks i use sometimes. very easy and not that bad. i enjoy taking out the manual trucks and the automatics. i dont see the big deal-its still a big truck we gotta drive.

    It's a push button shift. The T660 has the car style lever.

    and the exhaust engine brake is so powerful on our auto's that i never touch the brakes going down an incline. the 8 and 9 speed i drive are a different story-i have to use the jakes and service brake to keep the rpms below 2500.

    Good Job- if you didn't even have to use your brakes going downhill- you did it right!

    I drive that route regularly- with light loads and heavy ones.

    There are no mountains west of Denver. ;)

    I've had a 10 speed paddle shifter for a few months and hate it. Doesn't do bad going down the big grades but won't upshift until 1800; if you try to help it, it just beeps at you and stays in the same gear. In town it revs all the way up to 2000 sometimes, in manual or auto.

    Tomorrow I'm picking up my brand new T700 with a 13 speed manual so it doesn't matter anymore.
