The K40 mics are junk. I bought one for myself and later my CB guy took it apart to show me why it's junk. There's simply a large chunk of aluminum screwed onto the inside to give the mic some weight. Over the radio it sounds 'muddy'. He compared the K40 to a Road King and Astatic. The K40 had nothing over either of them. He even recommended that I go back to using the stock issue Bearcat mic that came with my Uniden.

My suggestion, as I did myself, find a nice noise canceling Mic. If you have any doubts, consult a reliable CB shop.

The k40 mic itself is a fairly quality piece, it's just a poor voice element inside. I've changed them out to different elements and they sound pretty good. The metal weight you speak of is used in MANY different mics.

I'd be finding a new company for those draconian rules.....

Jeez, I can understand safety and stuff, but some of these companies are just getting away with murder.

Yeah our company banned cell phone use. All the drivers made use of the "open door policy", now the policy is basically the federal law. Pretty soon the government will ban common sense. We don't need it anyway, they would like to tell us every move to make in every aspect of our lives!!!
