If their was no future in owning gliders and the government was going to "outlaw" their use, why would Schneider have already bought/built 1000+ and doing as many or more this year? Fitzgerald plans on building 900+ gliders this year, plus look at all the dealerships getting in on the glider thing.

The late 70's to mid 80's were big times for gliders.

That's right, Fishhook. My order went from a lead time of 2-3 months to 5-6 months for delivery because Schneider and others choked up the system for gliders. My dealer even wanted to get the order in after we got most of the specs done, even before he had my 5% deposit, for fear that there would be one of those mega orders that would create longer delays for mine. Freightliner is having a time of it trying to keep up.
Won't dispute that the 70's and 80's might have been a big time for gliders, but today and now is trying to set new records. The word is out and gliders are big business now. -
I was told Schneider up'd their order for 2012 to 3000 units, that's the cause for Freightliners backup . Eventually alot of states may go with similar rules to Cali, but I doubt anytime soon.No state has anything as powerful as CARB(yet)

And no state has such a concentration of knot heads as California does. Many states still don't emission test autos. And they have no real desire to pile on the emissions stuff. They have more important things to worry about. They figure that attrition will take care of things. As equipment gets older, the newer emissions stuff will be the norm. Which it will. I am sure that the day will come that getting a glider with a pre-emissions engine will come to an end. But I also figure that most states will just let the existing stuff just die off and eventually be replaced with newer emissions stuff. It would be a real tough sell to convince Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, etc that they need to implement the same goofiness that California has going on. LA and Frisco do indeed have their smog issues to deal with, but that isn't the case for Des Moines, Fargo, or Salina.
milskired Thanks this. -
where are you getting ur glider from? all i heard was from fitzgerald that has those stock coranados and an outfit in fontana california

Harrison Truck Center in Iowa. A regular Freightliner dealer. They do quite a few of them a year. Supposedly well over a hundred a year. Since they are an actual FL dealer, they are tied direct into FL's spec program so that you can tweak just about everything and have it spec'd exactly the way you want it. No different than if one was ordering a new truck with all the emissions stuff.

Gotta admit pretty #### jealous cowpie, keep us updated once u get some good data on her!

Just too bad I have to wait so long for delivery. Thanks to Schneider and others for all their glider orders for that one!
Yes, they do take trades. They are a regular FL dealership, so they take trades, line up GE and Daimler financing if one wants to go that route, etc.
Phil Woody is the contact guy at Harrison for any questions on a glider and such. His ph number is 319-240-8009 or [email protected]
As a side note, FL also has an additional $500 rebate for OOIDA members who take delivery of a glider before 12/31/12.Attached Files:
