Also a signed document from the driver giving you premission to run previous employment checks on him, and check into his drug/alcohol history.

I run local routes in Mi and Wi of rough sawn lumber. I hit a deer today and the front left headlight fixture was torn out. (Big empty hole). Can i run in good weather and daylight until the new unit is in? I thank you in advance, Bill

    questions from a newbie ,
The CDL book says you must stop every 150 miles OR 3 hours to
check the truck out so ,
Do you log out from " Driving " and go to " On Duty " for 15 minutes in order to provide proof for the DOT that you have done this ?

If your driving teams & have been " Driving " for only an hour but the truck wasn't
inspected ( as per the 3 hour rule ) while the previous driver was behind the wheel
or , he had looked at the truck but failed to log it would I get the ticket for a 3 hour violation ( if there is such a thing ) ?
Just covering my butt here , my CDL is new & spotless & I want to keep it that way.
    Thanx

If you pull van, no this should only be for flatbed. If you do a inspection flag it and say vc and Lc 5min. as in vehicle check and load check. You only need to drop down to line 4 if it takes more than 7min or for fuel, pre-trip, checkin's and drop and hook's.

Hey I have a question on drug tests, First i dont do drugs.. I do know unfortunately some people who do and i was around them a while back ( I'm new to driving) I was accepted to a company and told before I go to orientation that i would have to take a urine and hair follicle test. and to call a number and set it up.

well anyways after hanging up with the recruiter I got to thinking and didnt want jeapordize my cdl as any test failure will ruin my career ( and wasnt sure if their second hand smoke would have affected me) so to protect my cdl I called the recruiter back and told him that "I think at this time I have to decline his offer of employment" so
    1. would/could that end up as a refusal for a test?
    2. is the hair follicle even part of DOT and if it came back positive how could that affect my dac or driver reports (not referring to the urine test not worried about that)

thanks Im just trying to take this seriouisly

You can, but they can still inspect you and write you up for it. That will come with points. If you can hang a light there that works with the switch, you may not get hit for it, but if the turn signal isn't there, that will draw attention even during the day.

I'd say rig something up that works if you can, even if you have to use baling wire and duct tape.

No, it's not a refusal until they actually send you down to take a test and then you refuse. Second hand smoke won't affect you unless there's a ridiculous amount of it. Like riding around in a car with Cheech and Chong.

Any kind of drug test counts, however a single failure isn't a guarantee of a ruined career. If you really feel you won't pass it, there's nothing wrong with avoiding it, but you might call around to some clinics and see if one will do a test just to see for yourself. They're only $35-$50 and I don't see why they wouldn't. I don't think they'd report to anyone if you failed if you were testing yourself just to see, and the results were going to you anyway.

Load checks don't apply to flatbeds either, though obviously you do have to do them. You don't have to mark them on your log and you won't be written up for not marking them down. Course you don't get penalized for marking load checks either, so it's up to you.

The over 7 minutes thing still applies.
