Has anyone ever had any experience with the Cobra Stealth RFX? Are they worth the money, or would you be better off with a 10 meter? I really like Cobra CB's, and to have one that has great audio with exceptional sending and receiving range, to the likes that this radio claims to have, would be awesome.

If you are talking about Dougs http://customcbradios.com/Cobra-Chrome-Stealth-Radio-RFX-Version-P643685.aspx Then yes, that radio is worth every penny! I even had him stall an echo board in mine but like a fool thinking I needed an LSB radio I sold it and have regretted it since. What the description does not tell you is he also uses the PA/CB switch for high/low settings as in CB mode mine did 2 watt dead key swinging to 120 and in PA mode It would DK 12 watts and swing from there. When I needed it I would set it on low DK with the mic gain at 60% and drive a texas star 500. If there was one radio I really wish I had back this is it. I will also soon be buying another.

" I needed an LSB radio "

I have never understood why CB uses this mode ..... USB is standard above 7 Mhz ..... -
That applies to amateur radio, virtually all other non-broadcast voice communications on HF use USB.Even then you will hear USB on 40,80 and 160M, military boat anchor nets come to mind.

I don't get down that far so i'll take your word for that ...

I have no idea how I wound up on that post
"
By switching from Upper Side Band to Lower Side band, there seems to be some noise rejection - maybe more then what you would have if everyone just used USB only on 11 meters. "
That's news to me ......

Lets face it. No one is running out to spend money on a license to run a 10 meter radio. Yes, it's illegal, but so is speeding, downloading free music, and so on. But we do it because we can get away with it. Doesn't make us criminals. Now I know there are a bunch of immature people on the radio, but it doesn't mean everyone is. I'm a trucker, and I use the CB for it's purpose. As a tool to get info on traffic, directions, attractions in the local area, etc. I want a radio that has a good, clear distance because I run NYC all the time, and depending on what bridge is backed up at the time, I'd like to make the best choice of route. Having a radio that shoots out 5 miles sometimes isn't enough. It's a difference of, "Hey, which bridge is moving freely right now, George Washington or Tappan Zee?" I need to know that info about 25 miles before I make my decision, because once I start down NJ, and THEN find out the GW is backed up, it's too late, and I'm sitting there for 2 hours. And I'm not gonna buy a license for the privilege. I already pay enough for a phone. I'm not gonna on a device that I can legally buy, but "not allowed to use." Now if that makes me a jerk, so be it. I'm not losing sleep over it, like so many others are over the fact that "there are monsters out there running 10 meters without a license and modifying there CB's, get 'em! They're savages!" I obtained a license to drive a car, I obtained a license to drive a truck. But I won't obtain a license to run a radio that actually reaches out.

AND ......
How much does this license cost ?
There is a charge to take the test about $15 but many clubs give the test for FREE .....
The license is good for 10 years and does not cost anything to renew ...Turbo-T Thanks this. -
Another point is ......
A SO-CALLED 10 meter radio used on CB is nothing more than a ILLEGAL radio and you can't get a license for it.
Problem solved .....
No license is needed on CB .... -
Andiana Jones, I can't comment on if the Stealth would be right for you.....some like them, some hate them. Why are you wanting one? For the power? Can you run an external amp in your truck? If so you'd be miles ahead going this route. If you just want a few extra watts more than the average CB, it might be for you.
You comment about being concerned about how far out you can talk. I hope you have a good antenna on your truck and not one of those 3 footers either....you need a good antenna and coax; these are what make or break any radio. I personally like the Wilson whip style antennas with maybe some LMR-240 coax. You can't buy the coax in a truck stop, but an amateur radio shop would have it. RG8X is ok too.
Also things such as terrain, antenna height, SWR, if skip is rolling, etc....all affect how far you can transmit.
As for amateur radios....as posted the license is free, the test materials are $15, but unless you become a "radio nut", there's no point in it; amateur radio is a hobby whereas CB is "supposed" to be a tool, but it is a hobby for some.WA4GCH Thanks this.
