I use a crowbar. Just go easy. Works great without hurting anything as long as your easy on the clutch.

Just watch your drives ...

 

I usually have to do a small dance while chanting to the gods in order to hit a exact hole. Because only miracles can do that. (FOR TANDEMS, not perverted things like I thought after reading it again)

 

On this load I'm on now I have to run my tandems all the way to the rear. I picked up scrap paper. 45k lbs.

They scale me at the shipper but you don't get to see the readout. All I knew was my gross was 78740.

When i got to the nearest scale 40 miles away, this was my weight.

11280-30,240-37,220=78,740

Second weigh after sliding tandems all the way back.
11,440-34,060-33,220=78,720

How I lost 20 lbs I will never know haha

that's 2 gallons of fuel...

we run a fixed 5th wheel and also have an air gauge on the dash for the drives.

At 60 psi, that's around 33-34K on the drives.

depending on how it rides, you slide the trailer.

It's getting to the point unless I am over 42K load, I don't even scale the loads.

 

I though the same to and now I have a $800 ticket.

 

Years ago as a rookie I picked up a load and misread the bills it said like 32k (from the border) and I had my tandems all the way up...Good ol Virginia let me know the reason I thought my truck was pulling bad is because I had 43,000 on...lol that was a big ticket and a good lesson

 

if it's pulling bad, your trailer is heavier than the drives.

When it rides REALLY nice, you are lighter or at the same weight on the trailer compared to the drives.

at 42K and with 3/4 tanks, I am right at 77K gross.

 

You definitely live and learn specially when the ticket is 100% on you.
