I just bought one from Doug at customcbradio and love it! I went with the dual mosfet upgrade and his recieve mod, I hate to say it but this little Galaxy hears better than my Magnum S9. I have read the 979 does not have the drifting characteristics of the bigger Galaxys and now I am a believer. On LSB the 979 really seems to stay put. You should really like your new radio. Check cbradiomagazine.com, I believe he still has his review of the 979.

Mine is in love it just working out some antenna issue mount location with Wilson 5000 and I should be good to go. Using it with a cheapo antenna getting out about 6-8 miles

So what kind of power are your 979's putting out? I've heard they aren't able to better then maybe 85 watts. I'm kinda leaning towards getting a magnum S9175, you guys should check them out on youtube. Built in dual finals swinging 170ish watts.

I'm not sure of power haven't measured it but your comparing $450 radio to a $150

Poorboy, My dual mosfet 979 is putting out near 60 watts. I also have a Doug tuned Magnum S9-175 doing 220 watts. While the Magnum does have louder audio and a few more features I actually like the simplicity of the 979. I know the 979 hears just as well if not better than the S9 and so far seems to talk just as far also. It is nice to have a clear and loud radio but, you can only be so loud before people ask you to turn that thing down or just plain wont talk to you.

More watts doesn't mean more loud, just more distance.

True it is! watts will get you there, modulation/audio will get you heard. At 60 watts, another 160 really won't make much difference on the recieving end.
