I am a safety administrator for a mid size company and an ex-trucker. I support the CSA because it is a way to get bad drivers and bad companies off the road. Most of the CSA regulations were in place before just not as defined or easy to understand. I have to know and comply with all of them and so do my drivers.
Everyone is resistant to change. If it's that threatening to you, then you must be doing something illegal. It's not that hard to comply with and not that bad if you get marks on your record. There are different levels of dot involvement depending on the "weight" of your violation and the amount of violations you have. If you don't do anything to correct the problems and your violations mount up, then the DOT will get more involved. Plus if that is the case, you show everyone else how you really feel about other truckers and the safety of the public.
The reason for CSA

1) And an inspection would be required for that, just like before CSA... This could cause the company to get a DOT audit, again just like before CSA.
2)Again, requires an inspection just like before, and a fine or possible OOS violation... yet again just like before CSA. This could also show up on the pre-CSA safestat site. Again, no CSA required.
3)Nobody can 'force' you to drive fatigued, In fact... if a driver was spineless and wouldn't stand up to the boss about such matters... they could flag down a trooper or DOT guy and ask him for help in the matter. (ie a verbal warning and a call to the company about HOS issues) With CSA, no driver in their right mind will ever flag down a trooper/DOT officer for help with a pushy boss or dispatcher. As the driver will likely get inspected or cited and it will go against them as well. Same can be said for shoddy equipment. (ie boss refuses to fix something)
I for the life of me cannot figure out why some drivers think CSA is a good thing.Wiseguywireless Thanks this. -
The more bull shy!t the less drivers and the bigger the demand which means mo money. Hoo Rah

No.... All that will be left are the Gov. controlled companies like Swift and they will only hire min. wage drivers that they will train. So we are all screwed when this is fully implemented.snowblind Thanks this.

Like I said before....With CSA now....I "Walk" less...My record speaks for itself....And DOT "Rewards" me for being accountable.....
It's like this...If you area driver and if you like to smoke pot....And you know that smoking pot will result in a positive drug test....You have to place your job in one hand and your "Right" to party in the other....
Now tell us...Which hand is heavier? -
I beg to differ...The Mega-carriers can't fill certain niches in trucking....
No matter what...The small carriers and the Single-Pony O/O's will always have a way to make good money out there....
You have to know your lanes and how to solve your customers' problems.... -
Like he Shredfit said..... Try pulling into a coop to report a co. that is trying to make you drive unsafe..... You'll be screwed more than the Company.
-
Only if your company is in bed with the government.
Give me liberty or give me death. We are at that point! -
Equipment violations are the company's deal if the driver notates the issue in the PTI...
A head lamp that is unserviceable for example is the driver's fault if they don't change the lamp...But it's a company gig....Not on the driver's record.....
But IMO...if a driver can't change out a burnt lamp and replace it with a new one....They're worthless in my book.... -
Just how are you rewarded? Make no mistake, if you were the next in line for an inspection pulling through a coop... you WILL get one... period.
You have no 'right' to 'party' with pot. As it is illegal.Wiseguywireless Thanks this.
