Hey I'm looking to find a new cat 3406 B motor. Does anyone know where to go to find something like this ? I am not looking for a Reman motor. I'm sure this is something that will be hard to come by. I have caterpillar doing some research for me now just wanted to see if anyone here could help thanks. Not just a block or a motor in pieces a brand new assembled Cat 3406b.

Dont wanna take over the tread. Just wanted to ask. What is a ballpark figure, on the cost of a reman cat 3406b?
-
If i recall is the 3406b a mechanical and the 3406e an electronic? Do they sound much different straight piped?
Ethan -
DrtyDiesel you are correct 3406B is mechanical and 3406E is electronic.... not sure about the straight pipe as I have only driven a B

Thanks.
I know the mechanical injection dodge ram cummins sound better than the electronic injection cummins. I know that's apples to oranges but I figure maybe the mechanical will have a little more of a radical combustion process and won't be as quiet.
I LOVE listening to those old diesel engines idle. Just knocking and thumping away. Old Detroit v12 two stroke and the cat 3408. Love it.

Yes the reason for new is a new 3406b is straight out the box ready to run for 800,000 miles easy without having to do anything but change fluid and filters. A reman is still nice but just doesn't last as long as a factory built Cat. Cat gave me a price of approx. 27000 on the new motor but it's hard to find so I was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction.
Side note for the other gentleman a reman is running 18 grand for a 3406 b. (mechanical motor)DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Its really the luck of the draw with any motor. You could get a reman that runs for a million miles or one that runs for 500k then pukes. Same with a new motor. Personally I've had good luck with my reman.
As for sound, the motors themselves sound different but out the exhaust its about the same. Comparing a B to an E. But keep in mind all that will depend on the way the exhaust is run.DrtyDiesel Thanks this.
