Kind of thinking that is the only option many of us are left with. It is increasingly tougher to find that balance between new(er) problematic emissions/electronics & old/worn out.

I was too late getting CA 86'd off my IRP this year, but it won't be there next year. As well have never been a fan of the north east view from a truck windshield. Thinking there should be plenty of years left running between the outer dark lines of the U.S. yet. ;)

Wasn't trying to be off topic with this post. Just was originally hoping Paccar had these things dialed in from the get go.

But another question, has anyone played with the aftermarket aspects of this motor. Maybe cutting off/bypassing some emissions equipment, aftermarket flashes for the ECM's, more power etc.?

My boss has fitted a module to a couple of our trucks bypassing the scr, I'm sure something similar could be done for egr

grant you it has only been a month in this truck. Worse mpg was 6.7 catersville ga to fort collins co 78500. Best was 8.3 goodlettsville tenn to gas city in only 42700 just ran russelville ark to miami 7.1 at 79700
No oil consumption in 12000 miles the engine now has 68000
all transam trucks have tripacks so no idling to bring down the mpg

    How happy are you?

Are you still planning to rehab your older trucks?

That's good news. I hope they get the bugs worked out and it sounds like they are. I'm hopeful I can put some KWs in my fleet in future years once they perfect the Paccar MX.

As for now, the glider will be my suggestion to O/Os who need to update their truck and can't spend $140K + on a new rig.

Guys be careful, don't get carried away, we towed home a 2009 daf with the engine ruined @ 380,000 kms a couple of weeks ago, they're not improving , they won't last past 600,000 kms garunteed, those engines are all the same, I've only seen one make a million kms and it was a case of 2 gallons of oil to 1 gallon of diesel, note the mileage is kilometres !!

I paid $300.00 to have the valves adjusted and authorized the reuse of the valve cover gasket. That gasket cost around $100.00 if it is replaced. I didn't see the need since they are rubber and looked to be in good condition. None are leaking so far and I hope it was a good decision.

I plan to freshen up some of my W-900's even though I am having better luck with the Paccar Mx engines because I still am hesistant to go all in with this technology. It will also increase the resale value of the W900's if I do put them on the market.

It's difficult to make decision's these days regarding new equipment.

Running the overhead every 40,000 seems crazy. On my DD13s it is supposed to be done at 100K and every 500K after that. That alone is a couple thousand dollars in decreased maintenance over my MBE4000s and C13s which are done every 150K.

The intial adjustment is done at 40,000 miles. After that it is supposed to be done at a 160,000 mile interval. I watched the tech do one of my engines and it is fairly simple. It's similiar to adjusting the valves on a C-15 CAT.
