There are two possibilities
1) valve stem seal is cracked or broken
2) worn valve guides
Either of these problems will allow excessive oil to travel the length of the valve stem from the valve cover area of the head into the valve pocket/ exhaust port area for you to see
A bad valve stem seal can be repaired without removing the head with the proper tools.
Bad valve guides will require the head to come off
How bad is the build up? Is the oil going into the exhaust manifold on port number 4? -
I have a 2000 pete with a c12 looking to replace it with a e model I found. Ser # is 5ek01175 with 450,000 on it. Is it worth $3500 and will it interchange or what would have to be done? They say engine is set at 475, will it go higher with reprogramming What year would this engine be
-
Also the c12 is a 2ks

it lays wet i started it up with out the manifold no smoke let it run awile shut it down same thing wet on the roof of the hole and the outter valve is gummy and wet i only have like 10000 on the out of frame new head the outher hole's are dry

may be a a bad valve seal, i would run it and watch oil consumption and see if that changes, will probably cost more to fix than its worth and getting it warrantied may be just as much of a pain to do as well. -
hopeing to get it fixed on warranty i just paid 23000 to have this thing fix don't any better now than it did before the rebuild

The engine was built on 8-18-1993, it left the factory as a 435 Hp 1649 lb-ft of torque with a governed RPM of 1800.
It was re-rated to a 475 Hp 1750 Torque LOW NOX Software Kit file in CAT's history of the engine. Hopefully they changed the injectors at the time of the re-rate, otherwise it will be a poor preforming 475 Hp engine.
you'll have to examine the flywheel housing to see if the rear motor mounts are on the same angle. If they are not, you'll be building motor mounts or changing the flywheel housing.h50 Thanks this. -
sounds like missfiring injector, does is smell like raw fuel, or perhaps it's coolant. need to confirm what it is. but likely needs an injector. "Or torch" JK.
