I'm not sure what all the fuss is about towards the DOT Inspectors. But if you keep your rig and yourself 100% compliant, you should have nothing to worry about when pulled over for an inspection. Gotta remember, they are just doing a job to help keep the highways safe. I know you wouldn't want to be driving along side or around any other rigs that are being held together with bailing wire, duct tape, worn brakes, and near bald tires, now would you?? Certainly not me!!
The majority of the inspectors I've come across all have been very friendly and professional. Of caorse it helps when my company keeps our rigs 100% compliant, clean and us drivers having a positive/professional attitude.
I'm probably not going to make too many friends here. But I think it's great that there's more DOT inspection crack downs all across the U.S.. Would be great to get all of the non-compliant rigs and truckers off the highways and make room for the ones that do want to be 100% compliant. Because most of us know that the truckers that are more likely to be non-compliant are also more than likely the ones hauling "cheap freight".nascarchuck and scottied67 Thank this. -
100% compliant is a pretty tall statement to back up. I have no problem with all the inspections and such, but if you run into that one inspector who is intent on writing people up he will find some kind of a violation. You will get written up. Just how it is.scottied67 Thanks this.

@skylane..... Your position, however noble, makes the assumtion that all inspectors are knowledgable, well trained, and honest. It's just not reality.
scottied67, chalupa and misterG Thank this. -
Wow, your not sure what the fuss is about??

While I will agree that most are reasonable, some are clowns with attitude and a point to prove. Regardless of how compliant you are. If they want you they will have you, if only to show that your not as good as may think you are.
Non compliance and cheap freight go hand in hand. However, brokers are being held liable for the carriers that they use and safety records are being viewed more and more. Just say no to cheap freight!
scottied67 Thanks this. -
Yes he has to show you he's quaslified to do the inspection if you ask.
I have had supervisors sevral times in the past, that way it draws more people into the fire if you file a complaint or suit.
Never had one get as far as to what happens once I make enough documentation I get my report and do what comes next if I dpon't like the results. I did have a couple officers give me a unsigned report before.
The ones that have arrest powers can take you to jail those who don't can't.MNdriver Thanks this. -
When I suspect a problem I call someone on my ray lahood approved headset and let them listen or I secretly record the goings on of the event.
And before someone states you can't record the police, a federal court has ruled you can. Theres articles all over the net that back this up.

First thing you have to do is get over your fear of what they can do to you. I got over that a long time ago. My first wife was seeing a police while we's married and I got several trips to jail until I found out how to make him
leave me alone. I use that theroy everytime I have contact with the POS.goodchoice10 Thanks this. -
Yeah right. They target what they think they can do the least work on and get by with it. In going on six years I have only seen one come close to doing a proper level one on my truck. So lets these POS come correct and do the job tyheir paid for or lets see them charged and convicted for filing false reports!! I have done seen this for the last five years. So quit looking through your rose colored glasses. You should quit watching so much TV.
I vote we have a fair and just system done properly.
Thats sonething they can necer do will always be some cure for the existing problem that the last system was supposed to and didn't.
Grow you some cajones and stand up for your rights! -
I figured out one of biggest scams they run on people at the scales at jackson. co. In.

The easy way to tell the difference....
If he has a pistol on his side, he is likely a P.O.S.T certified law enforcement officer as well as a DOT inspector and has arrest powers.
