If u get on regional u will be home every weekend. If u go OTR the hometime policy is 1.5 days for every 7 out...up to 4.5 after 21 days out. Living in Milwaukee u will probly get many "freebies" by the house, a night or so here or there, sometimes a 34 hr restart, but not necessarily on a consistent basis. (unless u schedule hometime with ur dispatcher). Good luck in school and we will see u out here!!
needachange Thanks this. -
Do you 'bank' home time? If your out 21 days, and only want 2 days to get a few things done... What happens to the other 2.5 days? If you can bank it... How many days are you allowed to keep on the books? Do you ever lose them?

Is this question for regional or OTR? On either you don't really bank time off. Its not accrued like vacation or personal time off like with other businesses. You take is as you request/ earn it. On OTR you have a max of 4 days they want you to take off with out going on vacation. On regional you get the weekends unless you elect to work weekends, depending on freight. They also understand you may need extra days here and there to take of business. They seem to be pretty cool about time off so if you need more than normal just ask for it. Obviously if you are taking advantage of the time off policies it will cause problems. I look at it like this, if the truck is sitting neither me nor the company is making money so if I request time off (extra time off since i am home weekends) it's either because I need it or have something planned for those days.

I was asking for OTR. Although I have no idea what its like to live in a truck, I don't like sitting still. Unless I have a good reason like the grandkids birthdays and such. So I didn't know if you could just build up time for big events and take a week off at that time. Guess I'll find out what its like soon enough...
Thanks for the answer =) -
Well today was a lovely day, ran hard last night so I could get to my final and get my 10hr break in before getting unloaded. Appointment set for 10:30, I arrive at 10:00. Pulled in and the dock area was littered with trucks. I knew I was in trouble. At 1:30 they started unloading me. All the while my 14 hour clock is ticking away. At 14:30 I was done. Sent in my Empty message and my ready for dispatch message and get a load in a few minutes. This load wont be ready until 22:00 tonight. So I decided to do a split sleeper so I could run tonight at least. By the time I get settled, it will be midnight and I will have driven the 22 paid empty miles to the shipper. What a day!!
The $6.00 I made today wont pay for the cigs I burnt up waiting......
