Ok, you realize your comparing apples to oranges right? Chassis models make a huge difference in time, but more important the type of engine does too. ISX's have dual overhead cams that have to come out before the head. The cams have to taken out through the front of the engine. There are no cam caps so you can't just lift them straight out. Cat cams can stay in when taking off a head, big difference. With an ISX the rad, (sometimes the hood) has to come off, (sometimes recover the a/c). Fan hub, front cover and front gear train. If you have an engine that is 1/2 way under the cab the head has to be shoe-horned up and over the front cover section. Very labor intensive, twice the price of a Cat.

Oh I totally understand they're not the same. This is why I laugh when people tell me how expensive Cats are to fix and how you ALWAYS make more money with an aero truck. Something as simple as a head gasket which took a day each on my W9's and cost considerably less than an ISX in a plastic aero truck. I just never knew the costs were this much different for just labor.

Just had my head gasket done on my 05 ISX (Volvo670) and it took my mechanic 5 days. Definitly lots of work. By looking at some of the quoted prices in this thread I think I got a good deal.

Complete Upper gasket set and new bolts..$880
    filters and oil.........................................$200
    labor....................................................$900

Wow. That's about $22/hr. Did you get a warranty on workmanship?

As far as the warranty there is nothing on paper. He has been working on my truck for the past 3 years and has always stood by his work.

you got a steal! I wouldnt touch it for less than $1500 labor with no guarantee! a reputable dealer wouldnt touch it for less than $3600 labor plus parts.

Belive it or not the head actually comes out pretty easy, I was shocked. There is no tilting or jacking the cab at an angle, and they dont even have to remove the little dog house thing from inside the cab. As VisionLogistics has already stated its the fact the entire front of the motor has to be removed. Including the radiator and CAC. Plus that dang motor is a twin overhead cam, everything is doubled and its an incredible amount of work.

Quite honestly I dont care for the motor design. Just about everything on that #### motor has to be disturbed, and its a nightmare for a mechanic to get everything hooked backed up and sealed tight. I have had to go back to the shop multiple times by now as every little thing on that truck that can leak (as a result of the head gasket job) has leaked. I know the mechanic that worked on my truck got his butt in a wringer over it, I feel pretty bad about it, but dang it I need my truck fixed! To be fair, that Cummins shop has backed me up on this 100%

I was told the newest Cummins motor are now back to a single cam.
