Back in 05 when I signed on with them they'd send you the temp documents that you needed to get to orientation. You only had to ask for them.
Back then you had two weeks to get to orientation after they approved you. They would even allow you to haul freight during that time so you could bring the truck. -
I may have had my own baseplate when I leased to Landstar. In any case, I only had about 100 miles to drive and one scale. It would be good if there was an easy way for new owners to get a temporary permit to get them to orientation. Once you sign the lease your carrier should be able to get you a temporary cab card that you can tape to your windshield until you get your base plate. Some can get the base plate before you complete orientation.

Going to orientation next week in Sparks, NV.....was told that after I drop my trailer off at my former company in Tracy, CA that they could overnight a plate to me to get to Sparks or they could have it waiting for me at the orientaion center. I chose the latter as my former company will let me keep the plates till I get to Sparks then overnight it to them.
Good to see that Landstar realizes that different situations call for different actions and that they are willing to work with you to get where you need to be. -
I just got home from orientation in Reno with Lisa. You will love her! Great lady, good class.
I had some trouble with a very unprofessional person during the qualification process......actually, it was a stressful nightmare to be honest. She even sent me to orientation without being fully qualified, although she said I was when I booked the flight. At any rate, long story short, I stuck it out and got through the process. If anyone else is going through a similar situation, my advice is this; don't judge landstar on a third party qualifications center. Once I got past that part, everyone I have dealt with at landstar has been very professional and competent. -
Glad to hear it! Looking forward to meeting Lisa.
Yeah, The qualification center is picky as all get out. My doctor gave me a 2 year physical but they wouldn't allow it because I have high blood pressure, so the physical had to be re-done to a 1 year physical. My wife, nor the doctors realized that somehow her physical got marked that she was color blind, which she isn't, so now we gotta get that squared away. But other then that, we are ready to roll. -
I just tried to apply with landstar on their website. After I put in all my employment info the system kicked it all out and did not save any of my information. Wow, what a waste of time that was.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any other way to do an application?
From what I have read on here there is a horrible lag in the processing of the application which is why I am starting it now. -
call a recruiter and they will send you a application packet. I didn't have any problems online.
Brickman Thanks this. -
Thanks fireba11, I sent her an email. I hope to hear back from them on Monday. I hate all this technology crap. I miss the old paper application!

lol...if you call them they will look up the area and trailer type you want to run and send you a print out of loads. It will give you a idea of how much freight is in your area.
