Lots of ex pats in the world. There are many countries that offer much more "personal" freedom than the US.
Philippines and Panama used to be the hot spots. Now it's a couple of countries in South America.
Peru being one. But I fail to see why, unless somebody is publishing fake news.
Freedom is measured by the person seeking it. Not by the media perception we've come embrace.platinum Thanks this. -
Panama, Colombia, and Mexico. Costa Rica is too expensive now. I am going on my 4th trip to Colombia. Hunting my retirement home. It will be a finca.

Used to know a guy in Columbia. We swapped email for several years, then kinda lost track. He's an ex pat.
He had an awesome house. You couldn't touch it in the US for less than a mill. Probably much more.
At that time, he was having to shell out a few bucks to "relatives" he liked to call them.
More or less was renting it from someone connected with the cartel. But what the hell ya know.
Cartel vs Federal government. Not much difference if you ask me. -
I smoked for many many years and quit in 04 after my Dad have bypass surgery and I was having chest pain.....it was my choice to start and my choice to quit. Best decision I made was to quit-for me.
I live in NY and the smoking laws here are very strict! I do like that you can no longer smoke in public buildings although at first when I was smoking- I was NOT happy -but I adjusted to going outside. If you want to smoke so be it. Just please respect that I don't want to smoke anymore.
All I know it that here in NY if you buy your smokes in the 'corner store' (not indian reservation and name brand kind) you are going to pay about $10 pack- I don't know how anyone can afford that?? -
Not knocking you choice. It's a good one.
But I do take slight to the "respect my choice" comment.
Do none smokers respect the choice a business owner who desires a smoking environment?
No, they stand around and applaud when local, state, and federal government strip them of another right.
It won't be long, before someone starts making the decision as to your sexual orientation.
It's coming.sammycat Thanks this. -
Thanks Dance and Yes I agree the government is making more and more decisions FOR me that are "RIGHT"' for me....
As to the businesss owners as I said, I was NOT happy when NY went smoke free ( I was still smoking) and it was a HUGE PITA to have to go outside to smoke when I was out, possibly causing lost business at the time. I think now we are 'used' to smoke free (here in NY there is NO place to smoke but basically your home or car but not inside anywhere and outside most places it's even discouraged) Like I said though, respect that I choose now to not smoke and dont' get mad or yell or rag on me cuz I don't. I have smoked and know the habit well and was lucky for me I could quit. That again was my choice. I don't yell at smokers or anything. Actually I say to them, ''I get it.'' When asked about quitting- if they want to hear- I will give my advice. But I do get it and it's not an easy thing at all-as they said, at least herion addicts have methodone-smokers really don't have anything that helps the addiction. It was the hardest thing I think I have done in my life up to this point-quit smoking. I was lucky I was ready.

Even that right is being stripped. What happens on the left coast, quickly moves east.
Soon many cities will be 100% smoke free. In the home, car, and outside.
It has gotten so out of hand. That even the appearance of smoking will get an invitation to leave most public places.
I know this first hand, as my wife "smokes" an E-cigerette. There is no longer rational thinking in America. Only a herd mentality.sammycat Thanks this. -
i won't mind going out with a trainer who smokes but not in his truck but i had a trainer for swift. i asked for a non smoker and went with him, guess what?they lied or him. he smoked in the truck and in his bunk after 1 week i didn't go back out. i signed on with another outfit and got my own truck right off no trainer. got lucky. after a few yrs i got done to be with my wife who came down with breast cancer. i am looking to drive again and everytime its time for orientation i back out cause i'm afraid i'll have to put up with secondhand smoke and i wont. requesting a nonsmoker they say it could be a long wait or suffer for awhile.
-
All a very valid argument. As long as you're willing to wait, you can find a non smoking trainer.
Its the same with women and male trainers. As a former trainer, I refused to train women. For no other reason, than they were women. That and the nightmare sexual harassment cases I've seen.
