No they are not the same thing. Hazardous Waste is things such as human waste(ie pee and poo), garbage, and such. Most Hazardous Waste requires specialized equipmet to haul. Hazardous Waste also has certain places where they have to be dispose of. Think Yucca Mtn in Nev. for the used Radioactive Material from Nuclear Power Plants. Hazardous Material are things like explosivies, fertlizer, acids, and such. Many products we used have some sort of Haz Mat as part of their indgrients, such cleaning stuff, soda, and electronics. When these parts or liqiuds are shipped separately they are hazardous to people or the envorinment. Its up to the trucking company on what they want haul and get the necassary paperwork and insurance.

Anything made by humans is Hazardous, not mater what it is.

hazardous material can also be Oxygen, cotton and nitrogen. All rather seemingly innocent materials.

A truck turned over on 694 earlier this year and they couldn't take the load to the land fill because it was considered hazardous waste. The actual load, it was all those juice packs you get from Sav-A-Lot. 44,000 lbs worth of it.

Some states have regulations stricter than the US EPA.

I attended training under the Bureau Chief for the NJ DEP. The NJ Spill Law treats anything spilled into the environment as a waste and applies Haz Waste cleanup requirments to stuff that is not haz mat.

Hazardous materials are usually raw materials that present a danger to the public in transport = FMCSA regs

Hazardous waste is usually a by product +/or residual left over after a reaction and this is determined by OSHA and the EPA and are then transported under Hazardous Materials Regulations [FMCSR] with the addition of the 'cradle to grave' manifest system as required by the EPA, transported by trained individuals [OSHA] and under the added state regulations that may apply. You can't get just a DOT number and haul Haz Waste!

Many Hazardous Materials are used in Food and Pharma applications: Distilled spirits are flammable so bulk shipments would be a Hazardous Material, Phosphoric acid is used in anodizing aluminum AND is in most soda. It isn't JUST the sugar that rots your teeth!

I haul haz waste. It's significantly different in terms of laws. Hazardous waste is only hazardous when it's a hazardous substance, though you still have to be registered as a hazardous waste hauler to transport non hazardous wastes. It requires a unique manifest that is universal and exactly uniform no matter the state or company. It requires an EPA registration number. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. It's all I haul.

I did haz waste for for a couple of years. It's not worth the time or effort the companies pay crap. You think hey would pay more but they don't. And then the tyvek suit that's another thing.

Pay crap? Wow, that's news to me. I'm home most nights, every weekend, and every holiday. My check last week met was 1357.66
