My friend asked me this and did not know, so I just had to find out.
"But if you have no money to get there, Who pays your way now a days from the east coast of Canada to Alberta?"

Some companies will from what I know. The company I worked for paid for my flight to get up there in the beginning.

If your looking for hold over work ck go to the rm yards. They all have a post board for gravel haulers. It's usually end dumps and truck and pup and most pay per load cash at the end of the day.

It kept my mortgage paid last spring

My friend landed a job with Sanjel. He only has a class 5, they will train him in a few months for his class 1. He tried Tri-Can, but they were only looking for class 3 and 1 drivers only.

I on the other hand am looking for something specific (Mobile Crane Operator Apprentice), and so far no one is biting after countless e-mails. If all else fails, I will try Tri-Can and others for their offerings.

BoomTruckin did your friend move out there or are they flying him back and forth?

He has to move out there, Grande Prairie area. They are talking about some sort of relocation assistance between $3K - $4k, but he will see if he gets it.
They said that they don't do that anymore but will see if they can help him out. He got the job through a referral.

He hasn't left yet, end of the month. Passed his D&A test Friday. We work together and came to Ottawa together. Things have gone from bad to worse ever since we left the Toronto area and came here. Can't wait to leave.

At least I will have a referral if I need it.

Only Oil Companies have the fly in / fly out agreements. And some only fly you to Edmonton or Calgary, the rest is on you. What you have to realize is that some rotations are 21 days long, 6 days off. That's flying there and back once a month. With the income that you can make, its still worth it even if you pay your own flights.
