lol g'day!
closest u'll get to those road trains u have down under is whats called a turnpike double(last knew what it was called)
two 40 or 45 foot trailers, some parts of the western US allow triple pups (24 footers) -
so this is 3x 40ft trailers with a dolly beteewn them--andy
-
Pups are generally 28 or 28.5 feet, not 24. Double vans are much easier to pull than triple pups, because of the short wheelbase.
-
so what are pups are these the dollys or the trailers --andy
-
Pups are the short trailers.
-
All US multiple trailer combinations use semi trailers and converter dollys. Some western states also have truck, converter & semi-trailer setups too.
The one combination allowed everywhere is two 'pup' 24 - 28 foot semi-trailers w/ a converer dolly.
Canadians use B Trains where the front trailer has an extended frame that includes the 5th wheel for the 2nd trailer instead of a converter. -
-
The length limit in states that allow it is 106'. This can be 2 45'ers or 3 28'ers. No limit on axles. Exceptions would be OD loads (over dimension) with permits.
