Female Student Needs Honest Opinions

Good luck. I hope you have a good experience from this and decide it's a good career choice. Listen to the other ladies that have been out there and you'll do fine. Just remember to trust your "gut". If you have a bad feeling about someone or something trust in that instinct. Always park in a well lite area if you can, stay away from the back of the truck stops lot. Be aware of your surroundings. And I will concur with some other comments here, stay a girl. No offense to anyone else, but sweats belong in the gym, and before anyone else gets on my case, I've been driving for over 20 years, hauled van, reefer, flat, oversized, dump etc. And have seen a decline in some people's dress and personal hygiene standards. Doesn't mean you can't sleep in sweats, but at least wear some decent clothes the rest of the time. And yes I shower at least every other day and usually daily. You got to fuel so why not. Sandals are for the beach, a good pair of work boots or tennis shoes will work. Most shippers and receivers require it. Clean clothes go a long way in getting loaded/unloaded in a timely manner. I still wear jeans and button down shirts every day and get more respect than others because of it. Don't forget cold weather gear for the winter. You can get a pair of insulated overalls to fit you at most farm and feed stores and you will love them when you need to chain up or offload in a frozen warehouse. May you have many carefree and uneventful miles, and enjoy this way of making a living.

 

Forgot one thing, remember bear spray is more effective than mace, and cheaper too. My wife of 25 years carries one in her purse right next to her 9mm. Be prepared, you never know when you'll break down. Always carry extra food and water.

 

Will bear spray keep the fuzz off your back door, too? If so I'm getting some! I had one following me around Toledo tonight...

 

If you're doing what you're supposed to be doing the fuzz won't bother you. In every profession there are men and women that abuse their authority however. The bears are doing their jobs, just like we do ours, and nine times out of ten, the truckers that complain are the ones breaking the law. Just saying....

 

I am in training now with roadmaster, I contacted Rauhl and got hired on and start training in May at the Atlanta Terminal. The recruiter ask me if i knew any females that are going through training. She told me that they are hiring female drivers. From what I hear they are a good company. I had 6 prehires from verious companies. If you or anyone else know anything about Rauhl please contact me.

i believe i am the face of the company people see i dont grunt at waitresses or pout at the cashier when my scale tickets too heavy i know how to act like a grown up

When I'm between stops I'll wear basketball shorts and tshirts. But when I'm at a customers, I will wear jeans or my dickies khakis and a polo/button shirt if I have one clean. I remember some of the Swift drivers when I worked at Walmart would come in wearing tanks, shorts and flipflops. Made me shake my head.

 

I'm bald but I do have all my teeth! I always wear an undershirt to hide my fat gut, lol. I see some of those guys and......yeah!
