Attention Illegal Drug Users!

WOW...not only do these folks put themselves in danger, it's also eveyone else that's driving around them...truckers have to deal with enough sterotypes and bad press already....if you do drugs, don't drive

 

The OP has some good points but is wrong about the drug being prescribed by your doctor. It is not illegal to drive on any drug that your doctor has prescribed to you. The magacial list covers only schedule 1 drugs and that's the only ones that have no medical use.

However, the companies can and do restrict on what medications they will accept. That does not not make it illegal. Where the fine line comes in is when the driver does not tell the doctor that he or she will be driving a truck for a living. Please read FMCSR §392.4 especially paragraph (c).

 

That silly little urine test you take to get a job doesn't stop anyone from getting a job. There are so many easy and simple ways to get around these tests. They aren't coming close to catching all of these guys. Also, I understand the drug tests trying to prevent people doing these drugs while driving.. but if I decide to relax on Friday night, and smoke a joint, when I have 48+ hours of freedom, how is that any of my employers business?

What I do on Friday night, is none of your business Monday morning. I know they can't test for a time it has been done.. I know they have to do it to prevent use while driving or working. But with the technology we have today, they should be able to time stamp the use.

 

Am I the only one that chuckled at that line? It brought back some memories (of stories that my friends told, of course.)

 

As a card carrying libertarian I am all for legalization. I think it solves a number of societal problems not the least of which is locking up people for having a bad habit...

That said, I do not partake, have not for years, nor do I have any desire to. I don't want stoned people driving 40 Ton vehicles around the nations roads anymore than I want drunk people doing it.

As another poster said, it is illegal, it is forbidden and among the many sacrifices one has to make to have a career in trucking is forging any drug use... just as is having a beer and a shot at the end of the day.

Deal with it. If you have to ask the question, you already know the answer...

 

Like other posters have said I wish they were legalized the taxes that would be collected would help and drug abuse and crime would go down for those posters that wish they could do them on their own time.... unfortunately with the stuff still in your system, but you're not actually under the influence of said drug, would cause kaos with insurance companies and the legal system when you run the truck through a crosswalk full of kids. LSD Meth cocaine all keep you up for hours so im sure you're fairly tired the next day downers and the like really slow your reflexes and cognisant thinking wanna get on an airplane and wonder what the pilot did the night before. That guy that's got his finger on the nuclear button did the LSD he took the night before wear off. If you want to do drugs go be a rock star or hang out with Charlie sheen, stay off the roads stay out of the skies and forget about the military.

 

xFreeword420x you are wrong. Being able to get around them is a myth. The thing with drugs like dope it will show up in a urine test for days,if not longer depending how heavy of a user you are. Like sailnaked said this is a problem for insurance compannies,as well as LEO's if you are in a accident. Simply because the LEO's can't tell if you toked a hour or a month ago. Booze on the other hand stays in your system only a few hours. Yes it does matter in the trucking profession,as well as a few others what you did on Friday regardless if you report back on Monday. Look at the Secert Service scandal thats going on if you don't believe me.

It is not a matter of when you smoked it, it is that you smoked it that is the issue. As I stated earlier, I am in favor of legalization, but at present it is still illegal. Doing it on Friday night does not change that.
