40K could be done in as little as 6 weeks, and 60K miles could be completed in 10-12 weeks easily, so there should be no basis for complaints.

I don't like the fact that PRIME doesn't pay for the TWIC and US Passport. Other (non-trucking) companies that I worked for reimbursed me for both when I needed them to do my job. Perhaps PRIME should consider covering the cost, but deduct from the final paycheck if the trainee leaves the company prior to one year of service.

Thanks for this thread, I will be following it. Your posts always exude common sense, which is usually sorely lacking in the world.

    Hey U2,

First off, thanks for all of your posts, I have spent many hours on these boards and have gotten a ton of info from you, Iron Pony and Open Road Dreamer. My application with Prime has been approved and if I pass my permit test on Tuesday, I will hopefully be in orientation the first week of May. On one of the trucking boards this was the list for newbies (below), is it still relevent?? I read your post about only packing for one week and not two. I am planning on bringing (1) duffle bag for my stuff + a sleeping bag and pillow + a laptop (will this be safe to bring?) with softcase where I would also store clipboard, calculator, ruler, staple gun?,rand mcnally road atlas?,notebooks, pens. It says below shoes and boots? What kind of rain gear? Is a mini mag good enough?

    Here's the newbie list/post:
Shower supplies. Shaving kit, toothbrush/toothpaste. Personal items you know you need. Flip-flops for showers, Small laundry bag for dirty clothes, small bag to carry clean clothes and shaving kit into truckstop, personal meds, Immodium AD, etc.

Sleeping Bag (easier to carry, can get linen, quilts, etc when you are solo) Small pillow. Alarm clock, clothes, laundry soap, boots, shoes, rain-gear, flashlight, Coat/jacket, gloves, (flatbed-coveralls)

briefcase, caculator, pens, ruler, small staple gun, whiteout, Good trucker atlas, truck stop directory, All your paperwork from school, SSN card, Birth cert, CDL, Med card, work history, reference addresses and TX #'s, cell phone (nice to have) Money to survive on (try to stay away from advancements) Bank account info, for direct deposit?

Here the info I got from my recruiter:

State Certified Birth Certificate, Passport, or Green Card. ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTO COPIES or Hospital Certificates. Birth Certificate must not be laminated. THIS IS MANDATORY! (If you need to order a birth certificate you can contact your states department of Vital Statistics
    · Pens, Notebook, and a highlighter
    · Social Security Card
    · (Class A cdl. (hard copy. Also must be from your current state of residence)
    · Voided Check ( if you want direct deposit )
    · Social Security Numbers & birth dates of dependents for health insurance paperwork
Last 10 years of work history w/ dates and phone numbers. If a C or D seat, only 5 years will be required.
2 personal references & 5 emergency contacts with phone numbers.
    · Enough clothing (warm & cold ) & gear for 2 weeks on the road.
    · A B, c and D seat drivers must bring a pillow & sleeping bag. Or pillow and blanket
    · D Seat Drivers see above. . You may bring a cdl permit from your current state. If bringing a CDL permit with you, there will only be a required $100 fee.
    · If you are being trained by your spouse please bring a copy of your marriage license in order not to be charged the $100 (student program) fee.
    · If you have had a name change you must bring proof of name change or original marriage license & original SS card.
Please do not put your personal documents in the luggage you check in on the bus. You should carry all personal documents such as Birth Certificate, Driver’s License, SS Card, passports, etc. in your carry on bags.

Sorry for the novel, I just want to be prepared ! :biggrin_25516:

Thanks for any info you might have. :biggrin_25514:

Might want to bring a shower towel. If you are in a rush and can't take a shower, you at least brush your fangs, shave etc, you have a towel to dry your mug. It's hard to do with a hand dryer.
