My apologies. I used your quote more as a jumping board to my rant, not that you, in particular, had said what I was ranting about. I should have been more aware of what my quoting and rant combinations.

As for the second part I included in this quote - For me, and I think many liberals, assistance is a good thing when needed and not abused. No matter how responsible we can be, something can happen to where life hands us more lemons than we can handle. I want this system in place for those who need it. I also want there to be better oversight to make sure the system is not being abused. I don't like my tax dollars going to support the lazy either.

Not to get too political in this thread...

But, KNOWING how big of thieves the US Gov. is, I usually don't mind the average CITIZEN using available programs to FURTHER themselves.

Stop the big criminals stealing/misappropriating TRILLIONS in BIG GOV and then we should worry about the average Joe's that MAY (or may not be) milking the taxpayers the couple of BILLION (if that) yearly.

EVERYTHING in life is a BIGGER PICTURE.
Take a realistic look at yourself, your situation, and where you THINK you could be in the future, and make plans to do it. BTDT. And I have to say, so far, it's turned out OK for me. Try to make your own way. Get help if you need it. Do what YOU CAN do. But don't ever let a nickle stand in the way of a dollar. And "peer pressure" will have a way also of appealing to your emotion, rather the logic, and could be a mis-step.

I'm tired. Hope this makes sense :)

Now that is something I can completely agree with. My problem with assistance programs is just that, the abuse. I guess I should also change my previous statement to say that I rarely like the assistance of Govt, in some limited cases where people are actually unable to work or are seeking work I have no problem with it.

You can be sure that if you use Gov't assistance program you will be collection-agent ready until pay the thing off, there is no hiring advantage to public-assistance and if anyone says they have proof of such we need to see it = likely total promotional bull ......

we do have proof that public funds cannot be written off with personal filing Chapter 7 of the Title 11 of the United States Code (Bankruptcy Code)

no frikkin way, bustin rocks downriver to pay it off if you have to but will haunt you till you pay it

Well like I said, I'm looking to be hired after I finish... and if this preferential hiring were true with the gov't assistance, yeah, I'd rather not sit around day after day, being turned down if I could get a shoe-in for a job by using this method. Granted, I don't like doing things this way either, but if that's how the deck is stacked, well...

Trust me, I'd rather do the right thing and pay outta pocket because I'm not one for gov't handouts (even though I could use them right now, I don't take any), but as of current, I'm only scraping by with double digits in my bank account by the time I'm paid next. How the hell am I gonna afford the school in a lump sum? My credit got drug through the mud when the housing bubble burst and mine and my father's custom home building business went bust, so loans are a no-go.

Sorry Mr. Working Guy living below the poverty level, no help for you. Mr. Unemployed sitting around doing nothing? You're paid for with possible preferential hiring!

See where I'm goin' with this?

If idiots in the gov't set it up this way, then I'm gonna have to play ball their way.

Honch if you want to be Mr. " i dont take any handouts" you can always make payments on cdl school or pay by the hour. Something tells me you'll be taking the w.i.a. Grant. Dont know anything about a shoe in job im busting ### all day with apps most of the jobs that are offered are otr thats a last resort for me I got my cdl A twic and hazmat etc to work in the oil patch. I've been paying into the system since i was 15 now i get hurt on the job and get let go would have been silly not to take the free training being offered to me.
