Prime works for the folks posting in this folder- I doubt you'll find many negative opinions here. For that try the Bad Company folder. There are posts in there that document the down side - mostly lease operators who couldn't make it work. There are a number of us who post at TTR who have been with Prime for a number of years, and I know many more long term drivers who don't bother with the social media thing. As far as whether it will work for you, that's your deal.

hey iron pony what is your view on lease operator is it somthing u can do right out the door or would u recemend being company fore a bit and reasons
-
Absolutely not - unless you have previous experience in the industry.
Leasing a truck is starting a business. You can make it work, but only if you treat it like a business, including paying yourself. You need to understand some accounting principles so you can deal with the numbers, business principles, understanding trucking, etc. Most new guys trying out leasing spend a fortune in unneccessary tolls, don't understand how to buy fuel, don't know didly about big trucks and the equipment on them, why you really have to do a pretrip - let alone actually doing them, how to finance your hometime so you don't go in the hole - there's a multitude of things you need to get up on before starting something like that.
And most importantly, you need enough cash to get your business running past the rough patches - the ups and downs of your weekly settlement, the slow part of the freight cycle. We're talking about $2000 to $3000 in the bank the day you sign your lease that will never be used for your personal bills. And that's something else... you have to separate your personal finances from your business finances. The only money that goes across the divide is what you pay yourself. Settlement check goes in the business account as cash flow into the business.
Run the company side for a couple of years figuring it out is the best advice I can give a new driver. Get a copy of the lease and understand it inside and out. Ask a lot of questions, especially of lease ops who are successful. Then think about it.
...and make sure you understand why you want to do something like this. Running a business is work on top of the work of driving the truck and delivering the freight.wideglide77 and silenteagle Thank this. -
Would prime hire me with bad work history I quit 3 companies in 2all years

I honestly think if I were a lease operator or even a company driver for Prime I wouldn't even talk on the CB, I just can't tolerate 90% of the "pro's" out there and there 2 cents. I don't have any experience with Prime but have a friend who does the lease deal with them and he likes it, granted he has over 20 years driving experience and a good head on his shoulder. If it was half as bad as some of these guys say nobody would work there I reckon.
-
I only use the CB if info needs to be shared. Like yesterday when there was a cow running up the road in Texas... Hope no one hit it, cause it was bigger than these micro machines running around out there.

There is always a cow running up the road in Texas
