I was curious how diffucult it would be to transfer my CDL license from state to state. I'm going to be going to SAGE trucking school in July here in Cheyenne, WY. After I get my CDL, we will be moving into the inlaws for a while in Colorado, while Im getting experience at low wages. I have to go to school up here in Wyoming though, because I can get a grant and go for free, where I cant in Colorado. Is it an easy process like changing a regular drivers license, or will I have to do all the testing again?

you will likely have to test for your endorsements like HazMat.
You'd be better off calling the respective states. -
I transfered from Ca.-Az. in '06..........Just paid the fee and was issued my new license on the spot. However not all states do it the same way. Some have you take a written test.

I recently moved from FL to SC (6mos ago) just paid fee and was issued SC CDL. BUT, I was recently told that they just passed new regs that you have to re-test (paper) to obtain the lic.
I would deff call the state you are heading to and confirm what they do. -
I just transferred from CT to FL and had no problem. All endorsements were transferred EXCEPT Hazmat. Each state requires that you retest for Hazmat in there state due to different state regulations.

Sc to nc was quite simple.

each state is different, heard california actually makes you drive test again.

School that I went to in CT told us that it depends on where you got your license (What state) and what level schooling you took. Some states are more in depth on there schooling and have higher licensing requirements then other. If you took the quickie course in one state and went to another state with higher requirements to license then you will have to retest. I came from CT witch has one of the highest and hardest testing in the U.S. I was told that the only place that I would have to retest would be in Mass. because of the high testing and classroom requirements to qualify for a CT CDL.AZS Thanks this.

Thanks for all the advice. I will have to call Colorado DOT tomorrow and ask them.

Anyone move to Texas and if so, what were the requirements to obtain a Texas CDL? To transfer to a Texas CDL I mean.
