I am not really sure why you folks seem to to think that this other driver is going to be in the passenger seat as much as you think. You would be lucky if the other driver was in that seat for an hour or two a day.

USX puts 2 people in a truck to make them a lot of money with the truck running down the road. You can drive 11 hours a day, and must take a 10 hour break. Most people need to sleep.

Exactly, HD. I have a tiny bit of OTR experience. My last gig ended (my choice) because the company had my trainer and me running team after the first 5,000 truck miles. She couldn't sleep because she didn't trust my driving and I couldn't sleep because she kept running off the road due to lack of sleep. I only slept when I was totally exhausted. Hence my concerns, but it is only for 8 weeks. After that, even though I'm nervous about being on my own, I'm solo.

You have a co-driver that can read a map? I have no idea what that's like :biggrin_25513:

Because they will be. At least that was my experience. First each driver will be checking the other one out. Nobody is just going to hop in the back and go to sleep while someone they don't know is driving. Secondly, most people don't need 10 hrs of sleep. Thirdly, most people wake up when the truck stops like at a shipper or receiver, fuel stop, etc.

I've been talking to a guy from what he calls "team training". I'll try and remember to ask him about that.

I wouldn't mind doing something like that except for the 8 weeks. I wouldn't want to waste my t/o in some other city.

Yep. Totally not looking forward to being gone from home for 3 months before being able to get some luvin' from hubby!!!!!!! :biggrin_25521: Maybe I'll luck out and get someone who lives close to me so when/if they want to take hometime, I'll be able to get home too. Or vice versa.....

Well, you see, my advice is actually based on personal experience. My wife and I had separate trainers and when we headed out together the different points of view we brought to the job was incredibly helpful. We made mistakes together, both ground the gears and generally had a blast. We both had our trainers to call if we got stuck and we found out that if you treat people with respect and a sense of humor, they would generally bend over backward to help you.

Soo just cause they accept your application and set up orientation for me does that mean I'm basically hired on after the training and stuff? I deff don't wanna go get pumped and find out I'm going back home.. any help?

Just because you are going to orientation doesn't mean you're hired. If you "survive" the third day, you're pretty much hired. When you get you're fuel card is when you know you're hired. ;-)
