I worked for nct last year as a team. I made good money when I was running the road. However they talked us into a dedicated cardinal account and let me just say that sucked! We only got paid for 4500 miles a week and had to go to queens twice a week, wheeling, wv twice a week, syracuse,ny, and chicago il. That run burnt us out and eventually ended up quitting because of it. We did go back to running the road for about a month before we left but never quite got out of the "funk" we were in from rjnning that dedicated. Looking back on it I can honestly say if we had never taken that dedicated run we would prob still be there. We consistently ran 6000 miles plus every week. A lot of jersey to california and then back to jersey. We at least got through the house every week and took a long weekend every 3 weeks. If things don't work out with what we are doing now we will probably go back to nct for the simple fact that the money is there.

Ads in all my local papers every week, qualifications changed to 1yr otr in the last 5. I've never applied to this co. but I get a recruiting call or e mail from them every week and looking for 0/0s too. Somethings rotten in Denmark apparently.
housecat Thanks this. -
Nine months at NCT and I'm afraid my time here is coming to an end. I apologize for the lengthy time between posts. Two or three different times I had a whole page of a post and when I tried to post it it would get lost. So this is my next attempt. To recap, I live in north central Florida and am part of a 3 man team. two guys on the truck and one at home for 10 day shifts. Every 10 days we get back to Fl to switch out drivers. So I'm out 20 days then home 10 days but get paid for 30. We split everything 3 ways. We are currently the only 3 man team here. It looked really good on paper but then a lot of things look good on paper. Reality is a different story.
I've really got nothing bad to say about NCT. IN MY EXPERIENCE... The people I've dealt with have been polite and respectful. I'm not crazy about their choice of new trucks (prostars) but overall it's not much different than any other company I've worked for. The 10 days home is nice but it's just not enough money for me and my situation. Supposedly I'm averaging about a grand a week gross. I don't think it's quite that much but for the sake of argument and ease of figures we'll go with that. Ive got a wife and 3.4 kids so my insurance/ 401k/ health care reserve deductions come to about $180 a week. Taxes are another $150+ a week. I usually try to take out $200 a week for me to live on the road. That only leaves about $475-500 a week to go home to pay bills with. just not enough for me. Our truck is on track to make $150k this year. Divide that three ways to 50k each per year. Obviously a 2 man team would split that for about 75k per year each. Single drivers are supposedly around that level also, maybe around 70k. You can make money here. I'm just not interested in the 2 man team or single driving right now. I only went back on the road because of the 3 man team program.
New Century is a large company with many employees in many different departments. Sometimes those different departments dont always mesh well together but like I said, Its a big company with lots of people. little snafu's are to be expected. As far as the truck situation is concerned, They've already realized their mistake and have cancelled all future Prostar orders. Supposedly Cascadias are the new truck of choice although I've recently heard that they were going back to Kenworths. So who knows. I've driven teams several times before for several different companies. I've never sat around as much as a team before as I do here. The other 2 guys on my team drove together at Swift and US Express before coming to NCT for the 3 man program. They say they've never run as much as they do here. So different people have different views. I'm not impressed with their insurance ( eligible after 90 days) at all. I'd recommend looking for your own and paying for it without going thru the company. It's not cheap and as far as I'm concerned, only good as a major medical coverage. Not your everyday doctor visits. In some cases my insurance copay was MORE than if I'd just paid outright for an office visit.
Anyhoo, I'll answer any questions I can and try to give you the straight scoop. stay safe out there.
PS>>> Theyre currently testing about a dozen trucks with paperless logs and EOBR's, just to keep in mind going forward. Supposedly the trials are doing very well and expected to expand the program around the beginning of '13. We already have Qualcomm's in the truck that have to match logs, fuel stops, tolls, breaks and other crap. So this new thing is not a whole lot different than what we already have. Food for thought... -
Do you have to have hazmat? And if so do u have to have it before hired?
