Well, finally got CB working OK. Went through so much research it was pitiful that more is not out there for newer cabs. Anyway, first tried hook up to stock system, SWR so high I would not leave mike in cab so anyone borrowing truck would not burn up radio. Even with trimming of antenna's had no improvement. Next, put my Firestick tuneable antenna on & still no improvement.
From what other guys were saying I decided to: pull off right side mount and 'adapt' my bracket to the existing aluminum mount on side of the cab. Had to drill/widen the hole so a standard coax would fit through. Ran my own coax around the cab and into the radio...walla!! Great SWR.
The reception is not so great, distance either but I'm not a big talker so its about what I got with older model Freightliner. Not bad, not great, but OK for my needs.

You are kidding right?! Like I stated, I had done a LOT of research and the only resolution I found was spending $$ to get the setup to work. Not interested in those solutions so I worked out my own for those who are interested.
To answer the your question: I assumed that a new post will provide a current solution to the issue. Did I violate some rule by posting a new thread?

Does your truck have the antenna cable that is all in one that splits the am/fm radio and cb radio frequencies? If so, it seems that we are hearing more of the problem you just encountered.
.
. I guess the answer is to run a separate coax cable that is dedicated solely to the cb radio and be done with it. Well done on your troubleshooting and fixing your problem. I hope others are reading this thread and take note so they avoid the same problem. Thank you. -
Yes, the stock coax has the smaller ends and runs to a 'splitter' behind the speedometer panel. I read every post on this site and a number of others but could not come to any solid results other than spending money. I considered every possible location for a separate antenna/setup and ran the ideas by other drivers I work with.
The other guys offering info on this site have it pretty much right, the stock setup just plainly sucks. For those of you who did manage to 'nail it', GREAT!! I'm thrilled that you got it to work.
I'll try to remember to take a picture of the mount I made. How do I go about posting it?
SteveRocket Racer Thanks this. -
To add a pic:
1. Know the file name ( i.e. mybracket.jpg )
2. Start a thread or a response in this thread.
3. Just above the "white space" ( where you type words ), locate the add picture icon. It looks like a small envelope with a stamp, or sometimes a small envelope with mountains and a stamp on it.
4. Click icon.
5. Choose UPLOAD or UPLOAD FROM COMPUTER
At this point your computer should have a box where you can type a file name, etc.
Click to find your picture. Example; mybracket.jpg is on the desktop. Click desktop. Then look thru the file names until you see mybracket.jpg
6. You found the file. Click it to place it into the dialog box.
7. Click upload.
The picture should appear inside the "white space" on the screen.
If you have trouble please PM me and I can send you specific instructions for your computer.
Hope this helped.

Ok I have a 2013 model with a galaxy dx939 and a browning antenna using stock coax my swr is good about 1:5 1:1 1:5 but not at all satisfied with performance I know I need to run my own coax and was wondering if you ran yours through the path stock coax is behind the panels? I want to do that just so i dont have wires hanging around but not sure if possible without a huge undertaking. Also i get a sound when i recieve that is like clicking or wind blowing in mike but other driver doesnt have window down any help on either or is greatly appriciated I have already learned alot from this thanks.

GOOD JOB! As I've said many times, I would like to try that, but I slip seat. I would have went from the left side instead of the right though.
To those who have a great SWR from the stock coax; yes that happens sometimes. I drive a different truck every week and see this often. Some of the drivers with assigned trucks that have obtained a good SWR with the stock system have told me they went through it and found connections not plugged in all the way. However, they still couldn't talk/receive very far with the stock system. I have not explored the statement made on one of threads about a "antenna tuner" behind the instrument cluster, but with all the junctions in the stock system, even with a good SWR, it isn't going to perform very well......too much loss from all the connector/junctions. -
I run new coax in a 2009 cascadia, probably the same for yours too.
Removed outside antenna connected coax to the mount, (did need to resolder the plug rather than cut massive holes in truck)from there I pushed a small screwdriver into the hole & it came out in the back of the closet, ran cable into closet then around behind panel above drivers head & into the cubbyhole for the radio...
The only place the cable is visiable is the back of closet if I remove all my clothes...No big deal & I was not about to remove cabinets just to get to the cable mount behind them...
I am running just a single Wilson silverload with awesome results & the power I run does not interfere with the computer controls on the truck & I have zero interference from other electrical on the truck.
Forgot to mention I also run a ground(flat braided copper) from back of mount all the way to the frame to help with grounding...Last edited: Dec 12, 2012
