Was 2002 the last year for the 6nz?
-
Mayyyyybe. It was suppose to be but there may be a few 2003's floating around. I know we have a 2004 T800 with an Acert and a friend and 2004 T800 with an MBN so the year doesn't mean a whole lot.
If anyone finds a great truck with an MBN don't run away from it. Those are easily fixed, especially if it's close to an overhaul.Kansas Thanks this. -
Are the 6nz motors the preferred engines for the glider trucks? I keep thinking about doing something like that, but the thought of that kind of money scares me to death lol.
-
the 6nz is because it has an ugraded/strengthend block, if I remember, than older e models. the diff between the 6nz and mbn is mbn had a diff cam/turbo/ecm programming to try to keep some of the emissions down as this was cat's "bridge" engine between the c-15 and the dual turbo acerts. the mbn can easily be changed into a 6nz or upgraded like a 6nz with cam/inj/turbo/programming features.

Whats the easiest way to identify visually an MBN motor? -
I dont think there is 1, between it and a 6nz anyway. the serial number will be below the valve cover on the l/s at front or the tag on the oil cooler.................sometimers kicking in, i dont remember what the best way visually is to tell the diff.

Look at the turbo, if the waste gate air line goes around the back of the engine it is a mbn, if goes straight to the front side of the turbo into the compresser housing it's a 6nz.
Kansas Thanks this.
