Jethro, I don't want to hijack this thread since it is.a Millis one. If you go to the Roehl thread there is a post "Questions about Roehl" Ask me there or you may find what your looking for there too. I read it daily so myself or someone will definately answer you.

Why do some people have to come up with some conspiracy about hiring ex military? Happens all the time. MILLIS is not a mega carrier, only around 800 trucks. They are picky, not just about applicants but location as well. If you don't live in an area they can get you home to it makes sense not hire you over someone who lives near an interstate for example. To get money for veteran hires, you have to have a program in place with the VA and MILLIS does not have that.

TMC, for example, does hire a lot of veterans and they have a program in place, and they receive money for training veterans, etc. but guess what... They are extremely picky about your location. I know veterans who were turned down by them just for their home location.

There is no conspiracy here to hire veterans over non veterans.

These are not the droids you are looking for...

Oh and I asked about the program with VA because I am a veteran, BTW. Still went with MILLIS even though they didn't have it.

I wonder how they react to people like me who are not looking to get home time.

Thanks for the posts guys ... always good for the searches to have something to go on. :)

Denial is difficult. I can empathise with you guys. I don't think most employers in any industry tell you why. It is simply a decision made. Keep your chins up and stay positive.
I was the only vet in my class of 6.

The dispatchers love guys like that. Problem is a lot of guys say that once they are in their own truck they find more and more reasons to take home time after 1-2 weeks out. Either way, they don't ask you that as part of the hiring process.

I'm jumping on the location band wagon, I'm not a vet and was hired, I believe based on my location, Freight moves thur my (home) area alot on a daily basis. Plus they need someone to do Chgo beverage( everyone SEEMS) to complain about going there, As for me it will get me by the house for regional home time.

I think my location is what got me on regional. I live just north of macon about 3 miles off of I75. I'm right between Owens Brockway and Miller in Albany. My two biggest customers!!

Hey L.B., I was born in Macon and grew up Jones County near Gray, GA. Right now I live about two miles from the Cartersville terminal. Oh, and I'm a vet but I have not applied with Millis so I've not been accepted or denied because of my Vet status. Just in case.......
