I have had my Class A CDL for about 10 yrs now.
I was a airborne trucker for 30 years ,but a injury prevents me from flying anymore.
I have driven bus, wrecker and box van.
I just went back through school to get recurrent.
I am looking at Going to ND,MT,Wy to work in the Bakken oil field.
I am hearing a lot of conflicting information about working there so
I am planing on driving out and checking it out in person as well as handing my resume to who ever will take it.
I have all my endorsements as well as a current OSHA forklift and pilot car operator. My driving record is also clean as well as my background .Plus as a disabled vet the companies gets a pretty good chunk of change for hiring me now a days.
Does anyone one know who is good and who to stay away from out there?
Also is the housing still as bad as they say it is?
I don't mind paying a premium as long as the wages match.
Are there any Alaskan companies that use CDL drivers working the field?
I have heard do not send a resume as they get so many they do not even look at them, which is why I am going there in person.
Any help with info about working the oilfields would be much appreciated.

    It's Bakken....

    And good luck.

MBI (Missouri Basin) and PowerFuels have the best reputations.

http://www.mbienergyservices.com/career/ I sent them my resume online at 3 AM. At 9 AM I had a call to set up a skype interview. At 2 PM I had my interview. I never heard back from them.

    http://www.powerfuels.com/

I pulled for an O/O 20 years ago and we did stuff with Powerfuels. I wish I would have taken the guy up on his offer to buy that old Binder.

I sat down and looked at the difference between battling housing out there and the income compared to staying at home and running regional.

    I went regional.

Watford City is in an uproar right now because the city council wants to put a ban on living in a travel trailer unless it's part of a RV park.

They won't approve any new building permits for housing or RV parks either.

    Thanks
Those two and Key where on my list.
The school I attended has had about a dozen new drivers go out and get hired by various places all with different wages and incentives.
I am looking at this because I do not want to stave anymore and all the recruiters that came do not pay much for the first few months.
Since i am used to being gone and doing 20 hr days The work hrs will be nothing new.
