I never went to a Driving School. I drove TT many years ago and will be going OTR again in mid-May. I've been driving a Tandem Dump and lowboy for a few months. When I was looking over Companies to possibly drive for (Co. Driver no Lease or O/O), I noticed that many mentioned the fuel surcharge. How does this pertain to the Driver? I really hate to ask, what is most likely common knowledge, and sound like a dumb #####. I have orientation and a good offer on a regional job coming up soon and didnt want to ask and sound like a total newbie.
??Fuel surchage ??

Freight rates are generally contracted amounts, and are set for the duration of the contract. This freight rate typically assumes a given price per gallon for fuel. In order to be compensated for the variable cost of fuel, a fuel surcharge (which is tied to the average price of fuel at the pump) is added on top of the freight rate.
As a company driver, you probably won't see a penny of that surcharge.
If you were going to be an O/O or a L/O and would be the one who pays for the fuel, then you should get all of that fuel surcharge.
The person paying for the fuel should get 100% of that surcharge, since the surcharge is in place to pay for the fuel....but that isn't always the case. -
Thanks, I guess that would only apply if working off of a % rather than CPM.

Even on percentage your percentage should be on the gross not including the FSC .

About the only time I'm aware of the FSC is on government loads where it is printed on the bills, including the paid miles. Otherwise it passes unmentioned and out of sight.
