Is it true that January 2013 will mark the beginning of E-logs for every trucker?

No, because people are fighting the new law and i think there are a few law suites going on now. But most big companies have already gone to it or will be soon. Fed Ex Custom Critical went to them in the summer of 2010....then the new Qualcomm cost $6000 + a monthly fee, dont know how much it is now.

If they ever do make this law then i dont know of many owner ops who have $6000+ just laying around to spend on em.

People Net quoted me at $1730 installed and monthly fees for internet, navigation, dispatch, messaging and fuel tax filing of about $73 per month earlier this month for a single truck O/O.

My company has been using qualcom for years. never liked the thing. granted we have the old 3 piece units. I never found it very reliable either. there where a few times msgs never got threw or would go threw a day or two later. also the ones we had did not have the e-log portion. I dont think I could recomend qualcom for O/O's. It would be to much for just e-logs.

This year my company has gave use Xata's Turnpike to install. its a small little 4 inch x 4 inch device that plugs into the data port beneith the dash. And its interface is threw a smartphone. Which my company provided. However I decided not to use the companies device and just use my own phone (no sense in using two). I am not sure how much the device costs, but cannot see more then a couple hundred. It really seems pretty basic.

My company has been nice enough to not require us to use them yet. which is nice becouse it is giving me time to get used to it first. So I am still running my paperlogs along side the elogs to see how it works. Which is a good thing, becouse the other night I forgot to switch it to offduty when I parked for the weekend. So it ran as if I was onduty. I'm at like 128 hours for the week on the thing.

Just don't get caught with both! If they do not match, you will get nailed!

    Not sure on yours.

On the qualcomm on the "approve" tab, you have and "edit" button. Lets you go in and change any entry EXCEPT the driving times. So if you have an error like that, you can take and correct it. I have had to to that a few times when I forget to make a change of duty.

You just have to make a note of it.

You also can go into Qualcomm's website and download a copy of your logs as well for paper records at any time.

    Everett Thanks this.

I love elogs. The DOT man never bothers to check them. I keep my door shut and if you looked at my logs you would think I cheated because the only time I stop is to get fuel. I don't even stay the night at truck stops, I spend the night at the shipper/receiver since most of my loads are no more than ten hours apart.

I was just wondering because I heard that at the Lithia Springs terminal for Werner.
