And....One of the biggest regrets I have is that I didn't get a Step....I listened to the wrong people before I went from dumps to freight....
It's too late now....So I'm working with what I have....I still stay busy....But I have had to turn down quite a bit of loads because they were to tall for a standard flat....![]()

It pretty much equals out. There are plenty of flat loads that they won't load on steps, even with bridges.
I have no regrets buying a straight 48 flat. -
I am tossed.
Local dealer has a couple of 03 transcraft flats.
They don't look bad and the price is right.

But still leaning heavy on the step as I don't want to carry all stuff that needs tarping. Tend to be able to get more equipment for a step. -
Sliding winches should be not a problem to add, unless there is something in the way. Mine are LL sliders and I can add, subtract or change them side to side in just a few minutes.
Serious question, why a spare rack? I used to haul a spare around and they ended up ruined, before I could use them, they stayed in the rack so long. I've blown one trailer tire in about 14 years and I normally run caps on my spread.
Spare racks were an option, on this trailer, when I ordered it from Fontaine. I left them off and used the predrilled holes, for them, to mount some racks for dunnage and other stuff.
Never enough storage! Never, Never, Never! -
Strictly personal preference. I do know that Transcraft does not have a really good rep. Even had a shop foreman at TMI, tell me to shy away from them.
But, it's like discussing Ford and Chevy, as someone else buys a Honda.
BTW, less than half my loads require tarps, probably less than a third. -
OK, what's the "issues" with transcraft. I have heard that more than a couple of times. But no explanation as to why.
-
I run in BFE quite frequently....I'm over-obsessive about my tires....I don't run caps at all.....Every cap I have had failed.....Pressures were maintained but, unless the casings were x-rayed....You don't know how they really are....
It's cheaper to drag around a spare and just pay the mounting fees instead of paying $500 for a tire that should have only cost you $300...MNdriver Thanks this. -
we haul spares already mounted.
now if I had a 20 ton jack and block of wood with a wrench...
-
Yeah....If we could carry everything we needed....There wouldn't be any room left for the loads.....
MNdriver Thanks this. -
It has to do with their other "Unofficial" name, Transcrack. They may have improved over the years, but when one of their own dealer's shop foremen warns me, I shy away. It was probably back about '03 that he said that, so I don't know, but he did have 5 bays of the shop filled with them, being welded and every one was less than 2 years old.
